<div class="IPBDescription">Interesting...</div>Maybe I'm uneducated but... I think its quite interesting that the most played map, is a user created one. On one hand it frees up pressure on UWE to focus on engine and stuff rather than making maps, however it makes me sad that we dont have more really good maps that people play.

Why are Tram and Rockdown not played pratically at all? Are they crappy, buggy, not as fun, or what?

Do you think when they ad server map rotations it will be much better, or will most servers opt for a 24x7 Summit?

PS. Props to psykoman for the great map.

Bad performance atm, Summit just runs best (in this build)

Rockdown is very small and heavily favors aliens (though people do still play it)

Tram is still pretty buggy and causes crashes/other weird problems for some people

Summit is pretty close to the right size for a 6-8 player per side games, which is about the max servers can handle at the moment

Triad is another custom map that is both released, playable, and fun (imo), but its hard to build enough playercount without an in-game map direct download from server option (planned but UWE hasn't gotten around to it yet).

There are quite a few both UWE and custom maps in development, so we'll eventually have a large selection of maps to choose from. However, spark mapping is pretty time consuming right now and some of the mappers are waiting for increased performance/future builds to release.

UWE has dedicated mappers, but curremtly non are "really" full time mappers. There is great things planned for the future as Cory has stated in previous posts/topics, it just takes time. Summit is currently the only public map with acceptable tick server/client side and well thought out balance throughout the map. Summit is far from perfect, but it's the closest to it out of all we have out there right now.

I think summit is a awesome map, and everybody should thank pSyk0mAn again for it. I can't imagine what this beta would have become without it. I'm still amazed how beautiful it looks and didn't get bored of it yet.

Yes, that's really fanboyism, I'll be back for negativity later ^^

Dedicated and full time aren't the same thing these days, apparently.

    Um...

Dux, Insane, Sgt Barlow, Olmy, and I feel like I left someone out. Sorry if I did. No, I think UWE has the mapping front well under control.

Here's the deal with UWE mappers.

Dux = Fulltime mapper working on NS2_Docking, which is looking amazing and is pretty close to being finished. He also made Rockdown.

Olmy = Fulltime mapper. Made NS2_Tram, helped out on Docking on a few areas, and is now making some big changes to Tram to make it look and play better.

Sgt. Barlow = Part time mapper working on NS2_Mineshaft. He's been a developer for us in his free time, and somehow managed to get an entire map done that way, and its the next one up for release. We just recently were able to make him mostly fulltime.

Insane = Part time mapper, who is working on NS2_Refining in his spare time.

Psykoman = Community mapper who of course you all know from his brilliant work on Summit. Since the map was first made official, we've been working with him pretty closely on revisions, and we consider him part of the UWE family, as well.

    Hope that clears things up.

Why are in development maps being kept to playtesters and not beta folks?

Most likely has something to do with the Occlusion culling too. I'm pretty sure all of those mentioned maps are significantly bigger, so there still some issues to work out.

I think they're not ready. Or we'd see them already, like Summit and Tram.

Cory has said in the forums in the past, that Mineshaft is pretty much ready to go, and is just waiting on more client optimizations (as it's huge).

Sounds great that they are about to release a large map.

But It probably will not be released until the the movement chamber (or whatever it's called now) is ready. Phase gates would give marines too much of an advantage on a large map.
