yea it kind of looks like your shooting more from the hip now but extra screen space is always good! especially space that frees up peripheral fov. It definitely looks tougher and meaner but im going to miss having bullet casings fly into my face :(.
Didn't expect this at all, but it's awesome! Modders will surely use the old models for some specials! :) A remodel of the NS1 Rifle would be uberawesome, in blackarmor style..

or make the "old" model another weapon we can buy from the armory for 15p-res (or so) .. which does the same damage but 95 rounds (you know.. in a reference to Alien 2).and a slightly different sound. This way the old Model was no waste of time and has still a purpose ;-)
PS I like the old one better, but the new is all right too

Iron sight is not required as it would not benefit gameplay, only hamper it with a reduced field of vision. Unless of course you imagine having an iron sight mode would be coupled with different firing traits for the rifle?
I believe melee is great in it's secondary mouse position, moving it anywhere else by default would discourage it's use, which is already lower than it should be.

but it would definitely would be nice to have a zoom button or a scope/iron sight button
I think that rifle-butting should be available on all rifles. With the GL, it should be available after you run out of nades, and/or maybe have it always active using some alternate melee key or something.
epic Reminds me of the Quake4 rifle now. MUCH better. I LUV!!!!!!! Now to the sound.. (needs less bass tone now that it's sleeker? Just like the Quake4 one)
Awesome, but i still don't like the idea of a clamp on the underside of a gun to hold a magazine in place.
I guess if you want to qualify it, i suppose due to the up close nature of the aliens they'd want a system to firmly secure the mag, just adds to the bulk and awkwardness of the gun.

The new version looks good, great job! But as others said the barrel seems to long.

It does make it look a bit off in the profile, but first and foremost my concern is with how it looks in the FP view. However, we purposely added the extra length to the thinner cylinder part of the barrel, rather then the tip, so that we could slide the whole barrel back inside the front section more, on the 3rd person version of the rifle and versions that we use in cinematics. These renders were taken before doing that, though, so the barrel is longer then it is meant to be.

Can't wait to try it out.
Keep up the amazing work!
Perhaps like people suggested, shorten it a bit and make it an SMG, as it looks a lot like space version of those MP7 PDWs when folded up.
Or maybe repurpose it into a 'heavy' rifle which does armor piercing damage but less overall DPS or something.
Be a shame to waste it is all, I know how time consuming models are to make, unwrap, and animate.
Extra screen space is always good aswell.
Keep up your fantastic work on NS2 :)

no upgrades - old rifle
weapons 1,2,3 - new rifle

Screenspace recovered ... sleek new model.
