A few questions about ns mapping

Hello, I'm new to the NS communtiy (not to level design) and would first like to compliment the team on the work they have done thus far. Excellent work.

But to the point, I am extremly looking forward to mapping for NS, but have a few questions first:

- I've seen mention of downloading the ns.wad elsewhere on this forum. Is the .wad included in the tech release the most up to date version?

- The NS mapping guidelines mentions the use of a "nshulls.txt" during compiling. I cannot find this file anywhere in the tech release. I'm assuming it isn't, but I've got to ask: Is it really necessary at this point?

- This paragraph is found in the nstr license:
<i>"By installing the Natural Selection Mapper's Technology Release, you are agreeing to only use it for Natural Selection purposes, and not for profit.  You are also agreeing not to claim the technology as your own, or to post screenshots using it without permission."</i>
Does this mean that every time I wish to post screenshots here or at my personal site of levels I am creating for NS I must aquire permission from the NS team first?

Thank you, and I once again compliment the NS team. Keep up the great work!  <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://66.78.33.98/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

Ok, I can answer 2 of these:

    1. The wad is a sperate download, and can be found here:
    <a href="http://www.natural-selection.org/NS-wads.zip" target="_blank">http://www.natural-selection.org/NS-wads.zip</a>

    2. Um

    3. No, you can post your screenshots here, no one will kill you! You can post them anywhere, that disclamier just means you can't take anything out of the game without permission and use it in a commercial product (or any product for that matter)

As for #2, no it's not critical yet.  Wait for the NSTR2 before concerning yourself with the hull file. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://66.78.33.98/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

Just curious, is the hull file the file that associates different ambient/walking sounds depending on what floor/room you are on?

The hull file, when passed to CSG, is used to account for the various player sizes for collision and clipping purposes.  Without it, you may find yourself able to stand up in a duct or jump through a ceiling.  It will be especially important in NS (as opposed to other mods) because of all the different potential player sizes.

The file you are referring to is materials.txt.  This file contains the list of textures that trigger the various footfall sounds when they are walked upon.
