<div class="IPBDescription">where is it?</div>I've once heard that new map mineshaft will gonna be released very soon, but it has gone very long.

Where is that new map mineshaft and what the hell does Sgtbarlow do? Is it still work in progress, or resting in peace? It looked like such a great map!

Is it suppose to be a remake of ns_mineshaft?
  • konatakonata Join Date: 2011-08-24 Member: 118296Members
That would be silly. Especially as ladders don't work and there are lots of ladders.

I once heard that nasa was secretly run by moon men to keep us from discovering the existence of moon men.

    Doesn't necessarily make it true.

    Maybe it's up the shaft...

I heard it had waterfalls, judging from the end of the NS2 Beta trailer. It was going to be as large as summit from what I heard, or possibly bigger. Also there was going to add the biodome set of textures and map models, I think.

It wouldn't be silly if the mechanism was repaired (ladder/climbing). Also and if but and for tram would need alien door unlucking system and both would change the levels accent for both teams (even just a little) in/on(?) SUMMIT.

Or even unleashing massively changed attack/defence point would generate ideas atleast.. I wish we still had the NSicons D':

Mineshaft was ready to be released earlier this year, but we felt that with the current performance issues in the game, and the fact that it is a much bigger map then either Tram or Summit, we should hold off on releasing it, until we had additional optimizations like the new occlusion culling system in the game. It's already a shame that Tram is not being played very much currently, there's not much point to release a new map that ends up not being being played as well.

Sgt. Barlow has used the additional time to continue to update and improve the map, so the version that gets released will be even better then the version we had originally planned on putting out.

No, it is not a remake of that NS1 map, it is just sharing the name and theme.

To be fair, it's not really our fault. The only way to do it now (without running tram 24x7) is to close down a server and force people to reconnect. When you close a server, people will re-evaluate what they are doing and often not rejoin in favor of real life things such as eating/going for a walk/caring for loved ones and other such evils.

But then, your point still stands, there isn't much point releasing it until there is map rotation. Releasing it now will probably kill summit, or mineshaft (after a few weeks).

This could quite easily get fixed by adding a map rotation for the servers.

Tram is not played due to it favoring the Aliens heavily. The server room tech point needs to be manipulated or moved. Early second hive is guaranteed for Aliens and with the current balance system favoring the Aliens (Fades), the Alien win ratio will be much higher than summit. Also, Marines often fall through and are unable to climb the ladders in double res location which results in lots of '~; kill' for the Marines.

The map is playable, but with the current tier system, it massively favors Aliens. Hopefully that answers why Tram is not currently played :D

The graphics issues on Tram are the biggest issue, not the gameplay. You get invisible aliens (without cloaking) and random classes of structures disappearing or getting distorted. Not to mention the very poor performance, especially in certain areas of the map.

+1 to the Quovatis comment. Tram is the largest resource hog out of any NS2 map Ive played :(
