Is It Spam?

<div class="IPBDescription">... or is it Memorex?</div> Last night, I was playing a game as a Marine and we were reduced down to one makeshift base (our spawn was overrun). Two guys were keeping the fades from bile-bombing us by firing grenades at the alcoves they were hiding in. Someone cried "Gee, lovely spam" as grenades were going off in rapid succession..
So I ask, is it spam or is it supression fire? You could say that a bunch of Fades throwing bile-bombs into our base is spam too, in that regard. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
Personally, I don't think you CAN spam in this game.. unless you spam with turrets or something, but that is another deal altogether. "Spam" came from people throwing grenades or other area-effect weapons around in deathmatch games to get cheap kills. No skill, just fire wildly. But in NS.. at least in this game.. they were firing grenades to keep the enemy back while we regrouped and rearmed. Personally, I don't think that's spam, it's sorta a tactic. A last-ditch tactic <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

Last night, I went marines on NS_Nancy, and after two or three skulks rushed, I got an idea. I loaded my LMG to max, same with pistol and then headed out to a hice (taking leftmost route). Then came to a red corridor, saw a skulk, went back and helped commander sexure the node there, killed two skulks off with 50 rounds. Now, I asked for orders for a minute or two, but then I realized exactly where the hvie was, told the commander and went off, believing I could secure our base by assaulting and plaguing the aliens.
Now, this is contrary to teamwork, I know, but I just wanted to buy my commander some more time.
So I climbed the ladder in this red corridor on the right, got into a vent and yes, i was correct, this was skulk haven. So I sat in that went, killing -every- skulk that passed (about everyone all the time) until ammo ran out. By now, they called me cheater, "homosexual person", spammer etc. I sat in the vent, ammo was out on both pistol and LMG, had only knife, still managed to kill off 3 skulks with knife head on. (this was due to the bug, Im aware of that). Next thing, commander spots me, dropps me health and more ammo, unfortunatly only 50 bullets (I did not ask for ammo or health once, I wasnt doing what commander wanted u know) and killed some more skulks. By now, three aliens left but three more soon joined.
This is where I found out that parasite actually DOES kill, as one of the newly joining aliens killed me using it.
Tell me, was this cheap tactis, or fully understandable? We won that game since I held them off long enough for us to secure one hive and about every nossle. victory was not because of me alone, nono, great team, awesome commander, but I still like to believe I helped in the winning of that map. The commander sure did appreciate it.
Spam, or just tactic?
[EDIT] Back on topic, it was supression fire, but everyone calls its spam just for fun. The nade isn't an instagib weapon ('cept on Skulks, <i>damn</i> I'm good at nailing those little guys dead-on with nades! They turn the corner and foom-BLAMMO! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->) so the nade just softens enemies and prevents a rush at a certain moment. The nade launcher isn't a weapon you can use solo, either. Its simply long-range and rather effective, just just like Bile Bomb.
it is suppressive fire, but as a task in the game it is a rather boring. that it has in common with spamming, but real spamming is usually more indiscriminate.
however, as it is, the game does require such tasks.
i'd think automated defense systems are ideal for such tasks, but existing automated defenses are not much more than a slowdown for the enemy.
and you get nades and kill them?
and THEY say it was spam!!
