I have been spending time investing on improving the UI elements for my game and felt like I would share my current status. I just started a couple of days ago, but as of right now, we have:
<ul><li>Custom crosshair pack</li><li>Custom drop icons</li><li>Custom pickup icons</li><li>Remove the "G" to pickup indicator to pickup weapons</li><li>Improved alien commander UI</li><li>Improved marine commander UI</li><li>Removal of tooltips In-game</li><li>Added the option for opacity customization for minimap</li><li>Allow the scoreboard to come over the minimap when both are open</li></ul>
Here is a quick preview of the crosshairs/pickup icons/drop icons:

I updated all the icons to have something other than text.
I am also updating everything to have transparency so that the focus is more on that game than the commanding UI.
Would you suggest any other mods?
Would like to see some sexy new health\armor bars as well. We've had them since the alpha :D
I would consider that a possibility, but as it stands, there is no way to tell the difference between an LMG and a Grenade Launcher when they are both on the ground.
A pop up notice may be atrusive to many players. You are aware that when you receive that audible notification, if you press the spacebar, you will immediately move your view to that location? (assuming your are talking about Marine/Alien Comm)
Make those pop-up images alot bigger, just make sure they don't appear on the location of the crosshair. distance between crosshair-bottom of screen, one third of bottom. That's where I would place them. And did i mention bigger?
yes but, to me anyway, its annoying when a hive is being attacked and you keep getting those sounds. Maybe your right though, not the best idea.
And if it is possible to give the different requests different colors (med, ammo and order request)
