That would be awsome, I sure would give that mod a try. I would suggest crouching by a surface you are aiming at clings you to it. Kind of like inverted wallwalking.
Thinking of, the lerk could actually (although clumsy), walk around on the ceiling and walls with this implemation. Just aim at your new closeby spot and quickly release and hold crouch again. To prevent you from abusing this and move at rediculus speeds across the ceiling by clinging and releasing in quick succession, it should have a small limitation, such as not being able to cling more than two times in a 0.4 sec window. If this were added officially, they could add a cool animation were you first cling with your wings as you first attach, to quickly attaching your legs and release your wings.

It tried a few thing like aligning the view on the wall normal, but the problem is that you take control over the mouse of the player, which obviously feels wrong.

If you rotate it quickly, the transition should be easy to get through; players can't control their camera roll anyway, so you might be able to just tell it to flip what is displayed as up/down if the code allows for that.

Hum, I guess you need both client and server side. Because when they do not agree with each other on your position you get horrible wrapping.
I'll try the 180 roll, it's probably gonna be nausea inducing but it can be fun.

How are you implementing the controls for functionality? Would love to have a key you hold which will have your lerk will stick onto the first available surface (nearest), enabling the perch mode (no longer need to hold 'perch' key once you find a spot) and breaking the mode can be done with flapping, crouching, and airbrake to glide slowly, and most importantly, silently down from a cloak position behind a group of rines >:)

Maybe left alt, enters you into 'stick mode' (rather then having to hold down the key) hitting it again takes you out of the mode.
I really like the look of this! Combined with camouflage it would add another tactic for the Lerk. Obviously the Lerk would come out of cloak when attacking but I think it should still be able to remain perched while attacking.

That looks really good.
