<div class="IPBDescription">Voice your opinion inside..</div>I've never been happy with my headset purchases, something always sucks. Either the headphones are weak, the boom stops holding its position after a week, or the boom isn't even adjustable.
My current broken/crappy set:
Plantronics .Audio 77 (<a href="http://www.mrgadget.com.au/gadget/2008/plantronics-audio-770-gaming-headset-big-and-comfy/" target="_blank">clickity click</a>)
Any recommendations ladies and gents?

Also don't buy into those surround headsets... Stereo is far superior in terms of sound quality and funnily enough they also beat those surround headphones where positional audio is concerned :)
only headset I use anymore
<a href="http://www.logitech.com/en-gb/speakers-audio/headphones/devices/8609" target="_blank">http://www.logitech.com/en-gb/speakers-aud...es/devices/8609</a>
I bought my first pair in high school for $20 which still work great to this day. I wore out the foam earpads so I bought a new set some years back (instead of simply adding new pads) -- the newer set allows the microphone extention to swivel up out of the way which is nice. I like them because they sound good, are almost indestructable, I can wear them for long periods, and they have always been inexpensive.
The microphone pickup is great, I've never had problems with distance from mouth or mic adjustment. Many stores carry this model in their electronics section -- it's basic and works very well. Don't feel that you need to get a "gaming" headset unless you think you're some kind of audiophile.
I must say it is one of the best 5.1 headsets i bought and you can use it for PS3/Xbox/hi-fi.
But if you want to stick with a goid 2.1 headset get a sennheiser HD 800 or cheaper Any sennheiser PC 160 and greater series.
*gets the flamethrower from the shed*
Works amazing and have beautiful surround sound :)
I would suggest something like,
- Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro (if you take 250ohm, which i'd suggest, you want a headphone amp)
- Audio Technica ATH M50 (what i have currently, but for gaming bass is a bit weak for my taste - so i would suggest the DT 770*)
- Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro (open headphones, so you hear whats going on around you in a room - might be a bad choice if its usally loud around you)
...
and a Clip-on Micro.
Dunno why, but all those logitech, sennheiser, plantronics stuff - usually didnt live much longer than a year for me... could have saved me a lot money if i started with good headphones from the beginning + they are not that much more expensive than the "gaming" stuff from logitech, sennheiser, plantronics, razer etc...
* but everybody has different tastes - so i recommend testing before... (e.g. order a few, send back what you dont like)
PS: all those 5.1/7.1 headphones are marketing blabla, doesnt mean they are crap - but good stereo > wannabe 5.1
The best thing about them? When I do my (almost daily) trap-the-lead-under-my-chair-then-move-the-chair, instead of the cable snapping out of the plastic fixtures (as with cheaper headsets) you'll find it's a proper connection that plugs into the ear covers. This pulls out and can be easily plugged back in.
HURRAY
Get a good pair of headphones and a table stand microphone. Has worked great for me so far. You don't have to fiddle with the mic boom, you don't have a terrible jangly mess of cables, and best of all? If your headphones break you don't have to throw your microphone away.

Anyone got anything to mention about em?
Not that i have tried a lot of different headphones myself but after doing a lot of (re)search before buying my current headphones I think I know what the general consensus is
-Buy good headphones instead of a Headset.
-you can expect better headphones the higher a price you pay but the ones that Koruyo suggested can be recommended and they aren't too expensive (like the 999€ sennheiser hd 800 for example).
- I would additionally suggest all sennheisers above 130€;
- AKG is also a good choice, you can do little wrong
- Audio Technica AD700 or something similar (not sure if very robust though)
you could need a headphone amp for some headphones. There are sound cards with a bult in amp.
As for the mic: even a ###### one will do, imo.
oh come on, censored? It's not even a "bad" word.

I'm gunna give these a shot :D
I generally shy away from wireless, but the 2.4ghz tech is good and I just about always break them do a cable mishap!
just sayin
Along with this: <a href="http://steelseries.com/products/audio/steelseries-siberia-usb-soundcard" target="_blank">http://steelseries.com/products/audio/stee...a-usb-soundcard</a>

Good headphones these. I'm on my second pair due to clumsiness.
Used to use some version of this: <a href="http://cdn.cbsi.com.au/story_media/339290216/Koss-PortaPro_1.jpg" target="_blank">http://cdn.cbsi.com.au/story_media/3392902...-PortaPro_1.jpg</a>
but then they got glitchy in the cord so sound was wierd, and as I needed a mic I decided to get the more expensive version instead.
So far I havent had any complaints on my mic, and I have yet to feel anything abad about it either. The good thing about those is how comfortable they are despite the fact that I wear glasses. Due to how the padding is open between the ear and some part that stabilise against the head (lowers overall stress on ears significantly), the glasses can go inbetween and really get no discomfort at all. All other headphones I ever tried gives me a headache after just a few hours.
They also got good sound, is easy to travel with (folds into a compact structure, and lots of other pros. The only con would imho be that they dont isolate the sound very well (on the other hand, what do you expect from hedphones designed to not encapsulate the ears entirely to reduce stress on glasses?). And probably the fact that my first pair got glitchy. This second pair with a mic still works after quite some time though, not sure if its just because of luck, or maybe that there is a reason in the higher price apart from the mic, but I have yet to get issues with them.
Have a <a href="http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?field-keywords=sennheiser+pc150&url=search-alias%3Delectronics&x=0&y=0" target="_blank">PC150</a>, had a microphone wire break after a couple years but I got this <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Zalman-Microphone-Zm-Mic1-Sensitivity-Headphone/dp/B00029MTMQ" target="_blank">Zalman clip on microphone</a> to replace the original.
Wires can be an annoyance but so is replacing batteries, so I'm not too sure about a wireless headset.
Would like to try this though: <a href="http://www.google.com/products/catalog?hl=en&sugexp=kjrmc&cp=27&gs_id=30&xhr=t&q=plantronic+wireless+headset&pq=plantronic+wireless+headset&gs_upl=&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.,cf.osb&biw=1440&bih=774&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=2098272954377328985&sa=X&ei=SAKfTpDHHM3sOafprY0J&sqi=2&ved=0CHgQ8gIwCA" target="_blank">Plantronics .Audio 995</a>
autograder, what is your budget?
I share your clumsiness I fell out of my chair while stretching leaning backwards and snapped the wire at the plug >__> headset is so comfortable I can wear it for 10+ hours and not get sore at all. great bass and sound direction.
Nothing but absolute 'awe' paired with a good sound card.

If you want something with a microphone already built-in; the PC350 and PC360 are good choices as well.
^^^^^^^^
or if you want rumble look at the ear force lineup, only problem is those take up a usb port of the amp for the subs ololol

I strongly recommend good heaphones + clip-on mic (especially the Zalman, it's awesome). Because honestly the degraded quality/lifetime for the cost for have a mic and associated hardware in the earcup just ain't worth it. Most headsets tend to break down in one ear much earlier due to the extra crap in the earcup.
I personally am using Sennheiser HD555 + that Zalman mic. I reall yneed ot get around to modding the HD555s into sounding like 595s or even a 600 series (google "555 Soundstage Mod").
If you care about sound quality, wireless isn't worth it imo, but I'm partial to audiophile.

You have the same setup as me.
Good choice.
