Armory Gun Rack

Makes it easier for the Comm to give weapons.
One thing that bugs me as a Commander is when I have alot of P-res and I want to drop a few guns for my team near the Armory and they don't see them or simply ignore them because they are on the ground.

I'd like to have the Armory have a compartment that opens up and a gun rack that holds say 3-4 guns slides out. The marines could see that the Commander has dropped weapons and they will know exactly where to get them. The rack will stay open until all the weapons are taken or the Commander reloads it - after 30 secs or so it will close by default.

Pro's

1. Rines now know exactly when and where to get the upgraded weapons.
2. The Comm doesnt have to waste time telling marines that a certain gun "is at the armory on the floor round the back or wherever"
3. The Comm now has a more refined strategic point to dropping a few guns all at once. An example would be when you want the team to kill a fade etc you can dispense 3 shotguns from the Armory gun rack to set up a 'Fade Killing Crew". Or hit the beacon and have 3 GL's available for your team ready to go kill a specific hive.

Con's

1. The armory would now have to be orientated like the Phase Gate because one side will be opening out with the gun rack. You would have to make sure when dropping the armory that the gunrack side doesnt face a wall. But I can't see this as being too big a problem.
2. If all the weapons are not taken from the gun rack and you need to reload the gun rack I guess you would have to recycle the unused guns? This is probably the one point that brings the idea unstuck?

The commander's ability to drop weapons is better served in the heat of things when armouries aren't nearby. Say, you go in with shotguns to clear out a room of skulks and encounter a hive or hydra farm (or both), you then hope on over to the contested area and drop down a few GLs and tell your marines to go swap out their weapons.

This is how I pictured it is expected to work at least. That and maybe if someone doesn't have the resources to spend on a weapon, they can requisition one from the commander.

Unfortunately, you need to be near an armory for the comm to drop weapons.

Could allow the com to pre-buy some weapons and store them in the armory. When a marine opens the armory buy menu he can see how many weapons are in storage.(IE. free)

Also might just be a good idea to see it in stock or something on the main UI of the armory.

Shotgun (0) or for when the commander adds 5 with his personal res Shotgun (3/5) --> short stocking period perhaps with a bar underneath it. Thing is it needs to be clearer (not just laying on the floor :P)

But if for some reason that's denied, freshly commander-dropped weaponry should at least have some sort of way to easily see them from other objects on the floor, perhaps in a package or given a brighter highlighting from it's arrow sprite. Maybe just have them faintly glow?

Something needs to be done anyways, it's a feature that's difficult to make useful at the moment.

i was not reading the whole thing here, but we already have that (or not?). the commander drops a weapon, and the marines on the ground see a big icon over that weapon. isn't that the same game play mechanism you want?

A little off-topic, but I think it'd be cool if the com could drop weapons anywhere on the map, not just next to the armoury.

In my opinion, coms either need to be able to drop weapons anywhere on the map, or if weapon drops are meant to be tied to armories in the release, the weapon drop needs to be integrated with the armory buy-screen in some fashion.

Pretty useless if the commander can only drop weapons near an armoury because then the marines could just buy some. A gun rack would be nice. Maybe it could be a whole different building.

If my team had a gun rack then I would check it whenever I see a gun on it; just because I can.

Still, I hate the current gun system. I don't think it pleased anyone... except those Combat fans.... (Shimmel).

Some kind of gun rack would be nice. That way when i drop early shotguns from unbuilt armouries my forward marines will see and pick them up :p

Anyway unless they actually change the personal resource system, it will be very unlikely the com will ever have enough res to drop a significant amount of guns. We don't even have catalysts yet.

Didn't read everything, so forgive me if this has already been suggested, but I think commander buying weapons for players is a great idea, but like you said, the current system isn't perfect.

I'd like the option of a commander to buy a weapon, for a specific marine (maybe clicking him on the scoreboard, or his guy in game, or maybe even a whole new commander only menu option that pops up when you buy a weapons) that he can may receive at any armory whenever he likes.
