NS Commander Interface and "action log"

Hi, I'm having a problem with commanding and the action log you see at the top left when you are a marine.
For the commanding interface, the bottom portion (where you have the mini-map, the controls for buildings/etc are all black. And when I put my mouse over it, my mouse disappears but I can still see the commands of certain actions if I put my mouse in the correct spot. So it's like there, I can click it but I don't know where anything is because its shaded in black
For the action log, all the logos/pictures are also black, so I don't know what the commander is doing.
Any way to fix this? It doesn't happen in NS2 and only in NS1.
I also tried reinstalling NS. Maybe reinstalling HF + NS will work? I also did a computer deep clean (defragging etcetc) and a virus check.
