Since the last update i cant find any servers . There are 0 Server shown.
I've tried to validate the steam files and also to reinstall the game. it didn't work.

Wait a bit longer around 1min after refreshing the list.
Create a own game and then open the serverlist.

Reportback here if it didn't work.

Steam is currently having some issues with the browser. I would also imagine the master server list is a little messed up. Be patient! If, by Monday, you're still having problems with the server browser, let us know in this thread. Thanks!

In cases like this, you can sometimes use the Dev Stalker page to connect to a server. Worst case just type
<!--c1--><div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain'><!--ec1-->connect (IP Address of server)<!--c2--></div><!--ec2-->In your console after starting NS2. But, like Acid said, it's a Steam issue (in almost all cases)

It's very possible this is a Steam issue, but just to add my 2c. I'm getting this periodically too since 190. When I open the game the server list is populated but if I refresh once or twice the list appears empty, although the ping times from the last refresh stay visible.

Following the recommendation above worked, I started a local game and then opened the server list and it started showing the servers again. That makes it feel more like a game issue than Steam?

What exactly is the evidence of this being a steam issue?

    1) All my other steam games server lists refresh instantly 99% of the time.

    2) In-game NS2 actions result in the server list updating.

The above is hardly proof, but it would suggest there is a little more to do than 'steam is broken'.

This problem has been around since I started playing the beta, has their been an explanation yet?

Max emailed valve the other day and they confirmed it was an issue at their end.

I get this all the time and always have done. I just restart the game. Try. Repeat until it works. For some reason it doesn't always find the server list.

At least 2 source engine mods had this problem for me around the time this thread was created.

Have they had it consistently for the last 3-4 months? Because NS2 has...

It also effects some people but not others. Frequently I could see/join servers when others were saying they couldn't and now I have the problem sometimes and others don't.

Perhaps then Max could explain what the issue is and why we have been stuck with it for 3 or so months. It would probably make people feel better, until its fixed.

No one has ever cleared it up for me so, I sincerely doubt it.

There are 3 master-servers for HL2 (which is what NS2 falls under), but usually clients only use 1 or 2 of those 3, so it is very well possible in the event of downtime of 1 of those 3 servers, one client may experience issues but the other does not. As for why it is so selective and NS2 is usually the one that gets shafted, perhaps Valve prioritizes it a bit (giving precedings to CS:S and TF2 over NS2).

Any updates on this? I haven't had a working browser for a couple of weeks.
  • playerplayer Join Date: 2010-09-12 Member: 73982Members
Delete "Steam\config\MasterServer2.vdf", it contains the master-server IPs, Steam will generate a 'fresh' copy.

    That did it, thanks.
