Good time to dive in?

I'm a big fan of NS and thinking about buying the game, but I've been concerned about its performance on my hardware. 15-20 FPS just doesn't sound very entertaining. With 191, is now a good time to buy?

Here are my specs:

AMD Athlon II X4 620, 2.6 Ghz
4 GB RAM
nVidia Geforce GTS 250

Any idea what kind of FPS I can expect with the current build?

I'm running the same rig as you, except with a Core2Duo @ 3.2Ghz. And NS2 seems to be very iffy on AMD cores- prefers intel cores for some reason. For reference, my FPS is actually great and the game runs pretty smoothly. I rarely dip below 30 fps in the craziest fights.

I don't measure my FPS, but the game is very playable on my crappy machine :)

4GB RAM

Not sure what settings I use, medium I think. My machine is more than capable of playing the game without any tearing or graphics issues, but not powerful enough to open any of the official maps in the editor. I sat waiting for 2.5 hours to open summit before giving up. I need a better machine before I can finish my map, that's for sure!

You CPU is going to be your bottleneck. I'd suspect you'd get an ok framerate much of the time (~30fps), but it might drop down into choppy territory (<10fps) during heavy combat. Still, NS2 performance is improving all the time so I don't think it would be too long until your hardware will be able to play it decently.
