Crossfire tip

I've been messing around with the latest 12.1 drivers and CAP. I have a 5870 + 5970. So far, I've found that Counter Strike Global Offensive's profile works the best. It resolves flickering shadows while having the best frame rate of the profiles I've tried.

If you're not familiar with their new profile system, they now allow you to pick a profile for games if it doesn't have a default one. You have to create a profile for the game and then at the bottom there is an option for Crossfire profiles in the 3d settings.

I thought mixing different GPUs in XF/SLI was a no-no?

1 does GFX, and the other does PhysX, well on Nvidia cards anyway I wouldn't have a clue about AMD/ATI cards.

Fair enough. I suppose its like mixing different brands/batches of RAM, it will usually work but there are no guarantees.

In SLI Nvidia cards must be identical. CF can use any cards from the same series 5xxx,6xxx etc. You can also have 2 cards, 1 set-up for GFX and the other for physx. The physx card has to be an Nvidia, but you can use whatever as your main graphics card.

The 5970 is a dual GPU card of the 5XXX series. They're the same architecture as the 5870, but clocked a bit lower. So if you crossfire a 5970 with a 5870 it works. It's basically "trifire".
