Are you implying that EA isn't everything wrong in today's society?
I bet if you checked inside the machinery of those airport body scanners and inside the CIA drones currently bombing random houses in afghanistan, there'd be "EA. IT'S IN THE GAME." stamped on them.
Origin is actually the distributed intelligence of Skynet. You watch.

Origin = Steam when it was first released. It's actually a lot better than Steam's early days. Already Origin has improved (it use to take minutes for it to load, now it loads faster than steam for me) a fair amount and in another handful of months I imagine most bugs and issues will be ironed out.
When software is first released there are always issues.

Complaining is worthless. Of course Origin isn't a necessity but it's what EA is choosing to do. You have a choice too -- buy EA games or not. You make the same choice every time you buy a Valve game but you've stopped complaining about Steam because its issues were solved years ago.

You'll do the same with Origin given enough time.
Did Steam have the irreputable business practices EA seems to put forth with Origin? Did Steam trash your games when you were banned from the forums? Did Steam kill off your accounts if you didn't log-in frequently enough? I cannot seem to recall any of that. It was unstable in the early days yes, problems with the bandwidth yes, issues with authentication yes, but that's not what most people take offense to in Origin (well, Scythe may have a slightly different take on that). Even if it had a smaller memory-footprint, higher bandwidth (which is hard to imagine compared to Steam), and general better user-friendlyness, I still wouldn't care for that piece of crap EA is putting forth.

It is my right to browse and enjoy whatever porn I want. I don't need EA banning me from my paid games for wanting to look at barely legal Teens enjoying each other. As well as looking at and installing Mods for my games. Good luck trying to mod anything on Origins without getting your account banned and the game you paid for null in voided from use. On top of the other programs that Origins while scanning your computer deems as "Hacks" and again bans your account.

Thought I was pretty clear, but to re-iterate: it are EA's policies that condemn Origin as a piece of horse-manure, not the unpolished state of their platform, hence any comparison to early-days Steam is wholly invalid.
[EDIT] ######, read your post wrong a bit, nevermind that stuff up there. Anyway, not giving EA your money would be the best (and probably only) thing you can do at this point.
What makes you think it'll be on Steam at all? Sure, if Origin proves to be a commercial failure that cuts into their profits, they'll cave. But barring that, why would they?
It's not unheard of, Alice: Madness Returns was an Origin exclusive-ish, until it showed up on Steam about a day after its release. But then, Crysis 2 still isn't available on Steam anymore, so who knows. Maybe they're doing the numbers, and decide based on that.

It took me about 12 hours of toil, me sitting there trying stuff over a week or so, before I could get BF3 working.
