Must... stop... looking... at... forums
Yikes, every time I take a look at the new map shots posted here or at the ReadyRoom, the less inclined I seem to be to finish ns_veil (formerly ns_menace)... Not that this is a bad thing, the average quality of the levels I'm seeing here is absolutely incredible...

Ok, how about I just stop coming to the forums and finish the map? Then I'll feel adequate.

Eh, sorry, this is a fairly random post, and there's not really much else I have to do at the moment other than look at all the NS map screens.

Go team! Yeah!
/me looks around nervously

Don't let yourself slip into that feeling. It can help not to dwell too much on other people's work, but overall, I don't think anyone's stuff is "better" than anyone else's. Everyone just has different styles and different ideas that have aspects that may or may not appeal to (or be appreciated by) others. We all recieve criticism for our efforts, but we have to remember to discern real constructive criticism from judgements stemming from personal taste. Believe me, I have trouble with this sometimes myself. I see all the fantastic work people have been doing as well as the superb unique and creative ideas, and sometimes I kick myself, thinking, "why couldn't I have thought of that?" I just have to learn to get past that and do the best I can.

Hey, I am slowing fiddling around with my map idea. I can already see the calibre of my work isn't anywhere near theirs. But I want to make a map, and I will be damned if anyone can stop me
If I am the onlyone who plays it, I will learn from my mistakes and next time create tha map that everyone plays. It is just like learning to ride a bike, you may see everyone else going through the dirt bike track while you fall over, but after a little practice, you will be right there with them

Same thing here. I'm still kind of a brushwork/texturing n00b, but I think I have good ideas and I hope to implement them in NS.

See, architecturally I'm confident with what I can do. I do believe that, at this stage in my mapping 'career' (so to speak), if I want to create something in 3 dimensions, I can. The problem is the layout, and I think that's been the thing holding me back this entire time. I know the guidelines, I know how the flow should work, and I know what both the proverbial points a and b will be -- it's the getting between the two that gives me ####...

Don't worry, I'm too stubborn to just go and give up. The one thing that I really love about NS mapping is that it's finally something challenging to me. And challenges are the only way to improve. Just gets frustrating every now and then, heh.

It's especially tough to those of us who are making their first map as an NS_Map but I'll be a goat cheese if I don't contribute Something to this beautiful masterpiece of creativity and enginuity that IS Natural Selection. Its just that . . looking at all these really good maps has the same effect as being splashed with cold water in the morning. It wakes you up, inspires you, catalyzes you to action, and has interesting and demoralizing effects south of the border. . . . . . think about it . . .

. . . . if you havn't gotten it by here, just give up.

    . . . . . just go home. . . . . seriously
