"The Thing" is one awesome movie if you like the human vs alien stuff (i think we all here do :D), i can totally recommend it.
gonna pay attention to the scene when i watch the movie again :)

The dog monster from the start of The Thing doesn't look anything like a skulk. It's a headless dog with a tongue that has wormy tentacles popping out of its back.

The original dog monster, as in the very first one, has no head. He spits acid or something on the other dogs in the kennel then mutates later into the pile of slimy crap that is the dog monster that gets blown up later. Neither look like skulks and the first dog monster you see has no head, it's the most distinct thing about it.

In any case, I couldn't in good faith recommend anyone watch The Thing, it had a concept that could have really been worked into a tense, psychological horror, instead it was a spectacle flick, like Romans watching how many starving lions a group of bears could take on. It was all about the buckets of slime and puppets where the director does his best to reject any concept of subtlety instead just screaming "LOOK AT IT! LOOK! LOOK AT ME! BOOGA BOOGA BOOGA!" Dead Space, especially Dead Space 2, is the closest your going to get to The Thing in concept and execution(see above.)

Not my cup of tea, much preferred Alien.

This is the original. Never got around to watching any of the remakes.

    <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0044121/" target="_blank">The Thing from Another World</a>

Much more of a thriller, as is the case with many 50s sci-fi classics. This one and <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0049223/" target="_blank">Forbidden Planet</a> are my favorites of the period.

How easy would it be to test a %30 smaller skulk with appropriate hit box? I want to test it. Smaller skulks are more terrifying as an adversary.

can we just say they are since they're harder to hit?

unless you're like 8 years old, the 'scare factor' of seeing an alien when you're playing as the humans is lost after about 5 minutes...this game isn't wholly dedicated to scaring you the way Eternal Darkness and Amnesia are.
