The rifle still moves your crosshair down while reloading. This is not good in any circumstance I can imagine.
Worst situation is when you switch from rifle to pistol instead of letting the rifle reload; it's confusing as hell. The aliens are getting faster now, so marines need to have full controll over their aiming at any time.
Or don't they?
