Forum really needs at least a basic FAQ.

Great new trailer but...
Heya!
I'm glad to see the game is coming along so great, especially the last patch and the new trailer.
And thanks to this i've seen quite a few new players and "old" new players returning to the game, me beeing one of them.
The Problem is right now there is not even a "basic gameplay faq" where interested new players (or confused old players) could at least look up some of the basic mechanics that are currently implemented in the beta and working. Yes the game is still in beta, yes lots of things gonna change, but i doubt basic gameplay and systems will change too drasticly.
And right now the game in it's beta state is allready confusing enough, so shouldn't there be at least some place in the forum with an "quick and dirty" faq?
Stuff like the resource system, tech-points (do they still matter?), upgrade system for the aliens, all these things still feel heavily confusing even to somebody who knows NS1 from the inside out and played the alpha version.
So i thought i'd maybe ask if somebody with some spare time on his hands and good knowledge of the current build would be as kind to write up an really quick FAQ that at least cover the currently implemented basics? As a marine commander i'm suddenly held back on my medspamming by some magical third new resource, as an alien commander i'm completly lost and don't get me even started on beeing a gorge o_O
I really feel strange asking something like this... but with the recent trailer release publicity for NS2 is high once again and many new players get interested. But there are hardly any resources that help people understanding the current build of the game, maybe i didn't find them?
But i certainly think it would be great to have at least a really basic "Newbie Guide" stickied to the top of the forums, we just need write one up!
I'd do it myself but i came here looking for one, so i'm not really sure if i would be the right guy to write something like this :/
So anybody up for this? Would be a really really nice thing and i'm pretty sure it will help make the game even more popular when people actually understand what's going on when they play it ;)

You can find the link by looking at the links at the top of the forum's page, directly below the community tab, between IRC and Community Guidelines.
Some information may be out-of-date, but you can still build a comprehensive understanding of the current state of the game by reading the FAQ, What's new from Ns1, and the overviews of both teams.
That was easy.

Exactly what i've been looking for, thanks!
But does it really have to be that hidden inside a wiki, and that wiki beeing hidden away like that? ;)
Many new players and most people are used to at least finding something like a stickied FAQ or something that reads "Start here/FAQ" or something like that where they can read up (At least that's what i did with the original mod, and it really helped me). The Wiki seems to have all the interesting stuff but i it feels like it needs some kind of big pointer going "here you can find a little guide, confused? scared? LOOK HERE!" linking to the wiki.
Right now NS2 has like 3 different FAQ's you find at a quick glance, but none of them tell you anything about "how to play". That Beginners Guide inside the Wiki looks great but compared to all the other FAQ's that are around it's like they tried to hide it from the people on purpose so they can't find it.
Like i said before: i really feel strange asking something that seems so basic, but i believe things like that go along way introducing new players to the game, making the "getting into it" easier for them by giving them easy access to the important information. Yes you can allways say "then they should look harder for themself" but sadly that's not how people and gamers work, when people don't quickly get what they need/look for they will just go "crappy game" and quit in frustration.
It's the same problem NS1 suffered from, easing in new players. So i think something as simple as an stickied forum thread going "How to get started? Beginners Guide inside!" would really help alot so people don't get confused even more about the game.

Just kidding. It is pretty, uh, obscure. The wiki is definitely not my go-to for NS2 info.

Yeah i allready noticed it's not really up to date with the current build, but i still got most of my "confused things" answered. :)
Even tho half of it still doesn't make sense and the wiki sometimes talks about a completly different game.
And dunno if a video tutorial is really that good for such an complex game, most people rather wanna read up on the stuff because with the 2 sides and the names and everything the game can get confusing fast if you are not used to the NS universe and gameplay.
But a video tutroial that covers most of the basics would certainly be cool, because the game finnaly feels like it's coming along with all those people playing.
There are some tutorials on NS2HD's Youtube channel, but these videos are pretty old and from an early stage of the beta.
http://www.youtube.com/user/NaturalSelecti...?query=Tutorial
And yes, I'd like to see him doing some tutorial videos for the new players out there. Especially after such a major beta version release like gorilla, there are so much new players, that playing on pubs is not always a great pleasure :/

Yes that's why i'm talking about this.. gorilla lead to alot of publicity but gamers are picky people and turned off quickly.
I've quite seen quite a few people commenting on the gorilla trailer saying "the original mod had been unbalanced as hell!" because they didn't understand the original mod because it had such a high learning curve.
I don't want the same to happen to NS2 that it's beeing considered "unbalanced" or "bad" because of the high learning curve.
So a simple "Newbie Guide" ontop of the forum that's huge and visible should be the bare minimum for those people that are at least interested enough to visit the forums.
Even the beginners guide inside the wiki would be good enough, but dear god make it more visible and easier to find on the page. Nobody expects to look for a "newbie guide" behind some Wiki that's hidden next to the forum rules and "mailing lists" :)
