Skulks Vs Marine (in Vent)

anyone else notice how hard it is to kill a marine in a vent? heres the situation: i find a marine with his back facing me in a vent, i run up to him and start chomping, he turns around and kills me. Ive put about 4 bites into his back and he didnt die... this has happened about every time i find a marine in a vent with his back to me.

is there something wrong with where my bites land or where the marines "hit-boxes" are when he crouches?
or am i the only one having this problem?

    Lots of half life mods have had hitbox problems when a player crouches (CS had a really nasty one for a while). I've noticed the same problem.

    The hit-boxes are messed up. They may be fixed in the latest version, v1.02, but I didn't see a mention. The best way I found was to just look almost completely down and just keep biting. It's much harder when they're almost out of a vent, but shooting and you can't get in, IE: ns_hera with all the vents in the Holoroom.

    A previous post in the forums concerning killing marines in vents said that you should aim for the marine's groin area. It also had a screenshot marking that area so you can try that method if you want to throw a marine-killing party in the vents.

    what about marines that are just crouching not in vents? i cannot recall ever being able to kill or even hit one like that. of course that may have something to do with the fact there is no hit sound or at least i never noticed it. quite annoying. there's so many wrong and missing things in this game. i hope they get fixed now.

    Even more annoying are jetpackers flying around crouched so you can't hit them, wailing all over you with an HMG. The hitboxes NEED to be fixed. Heck, make them overlarge if need be... but we DON'T need invincible Marines with heavy weaponry flitting around, for all intents and purposes invulnerable. Or using a melee weapon crouched, and being unkillable except from the back, aiming for the rump.

    also it seems to me like you cant bite a marines feet, if i had a dollar for every time i climbed up a ladder behind a marine chmoping like mad and got nothing but a faceful fo lead . . . i denno, id have quite a few dollars.

    Its an old habit of mine from DoD, I always crouch with a marine no when I'm guarding something, and I get bit just fine. When I skulk someone crouch, jumping for me almost always does the trick. I think the body hitboxes may be bad while crouched but apparently hitting their head does wonders <!--emo&::skulk::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/skulk.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='skulk.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Im looking at the hitboxes for crouch in the HL model viewer and they look fine to me.

    Easiest way to get around the vent bug is to aim for the "family jewels." That'll make sure you hit.

    I've bitten marines from both above and below, going up and down on ladders on Bast, (and other maps for certain), and had no success. Luckily I improvised and stuck to the wall instead and went for their midsections.

    I've crept down walls with slience to an unarmoured marine, (crouched in a corner, waiting for a resource node to be dropped so he can build it), and laid 3-4 bites into his head, before he realized I was right above him and shot me dead in 2 seconds.

    I've also simply chewed on marine boots to no avail more times than I can count by running up behind them with celerity on and holding down, forward and attack. I should be at least 2x faster than a marine as a skulk with lvl3 celerity, no? So why is this such a problem?

    And yes, you can <i>try</i> to bite a 'vented' marine in the **obscenity**, but guess what? That seems to be the ONLY place it works, which means you have to run right at the gun. (And there are <i>some</i> vents where IT DOES NOT WORK.) This bug is even worse, because it seems to carry over to: anywhere on any map, jumping-and-crouching marines, (yay crouching-bunny-hoppers!), jetpackers.

    There's obviously some kind of hitbox / hit detec. etc. problem, all we can do is hope it gets fixed soon.

    A) HL is cutting corners and not throughly checking every hitbox in order to improse performance.

    B) Lag makes the positioning look different to a server so it doesn't register the hit, Because Bite has such a short range.

    C) It's not so much the marines hit boxes, but the bite's attack boxes (and Bile Bomb) that's causing the problem, And the problem is especially noticable for crouched marines.

    I had this same problem, I parasited the vent marine and came back as a lurk, spitting darts at him and retreating down other corridors in the vents. He never did figure out where he was getting shot from.
