<div class="IPBDescription">Stationary Shield</div>Nano Shield has some balance issues. It arguably too powerful when used on Marine players, especially in smaller games. However, its cost becomes rather too expensive when there are a lot of structures and players to protect.

What if Nano Shield is turned into a stationary area-based shield which covers a small area (radius of approx. 1 to 3), reducing damage taken by all friendly units? For instannce, when deployed near an Infantry Portal, Marines spawning will also be protected by the shield. Multiple players and structures could also be covered with one Nano Shield.

The drawback of this design would be, Marines that move out of the area will no longer be protected by the Shield, limiting their combat power.

What do you think?

It's too powerful, let's make it more powerful? o.O

The area could be small (~1 radius), so only 2-4 Marines will be able to fit inside if they huddle together. But any Marine who wish to be protected will have to stand still, and be unable to dodge attacks.

    Ah I see. :)
Interesting suggestion, it will be a nerf indeed, and it will make it useless for jetpackers. :(
I would actually like to see it be nerfed in other ways, as changing cost to pres so it becomes an actual trade-off, instead of something you have to use as much as possible when your marines or structures are under attack.
Also change how it affects marines, make it a temporary armor boost, instead of 50% damage negation.
The ability is definitly too powerful as it is now, just being regenerated over time.

I think its a great idea. Stationary, small radius, maybe decrease the damage reduction or increase energy cost or both.
This idea would be more aesthetically pleasing than it is now. Something about nano-shield just looks goofy to me right now. The concept of a ball of blue nano-y circuit-board-esque texture floating and rotating in midair.

I'm thinking of nano-shield looking like SC2's forcefield cast from sentries, except in transparent blue, instead of clear.

Aesthecially speaking it needs to look more like microscopic nanomachines congregating in a spherical area in such density that a faint yet well defined blue glow is visible.

edit: i like the idea of the nanoshield being an area of fast armor repair. Thats pretty sweet

I think this is a rather cool idea. Both being able to lay down a bubble of protection for a few players, or where people spawn in from the ip.
