A quick thought...

<div class="IPBDescription">TF2 comparison</div>When you die in this game, the camera often tilts and clips through the floor (showing the skybox and looking fairly ugly).

TF2 solves this by having the camera zoom on a set path and show the person who killed you (as they wave goodbye, salute you, throw a cigarette on your corpse etc).

Could/should something similar be done in NS2? To make it not seem like a TF2 ripoff, you could just float the camera to the midpoint between the 2 players or something like that. Anything to reduce the unpolished look of clipping the camera through the map..

It sounds petty (because it is), but changes like this will help the game sell lots of copies to people who have trouble looking past these sorts of things.

i'd rather it had hl2 style camera following the head model for a realistic approach. kill cams or the "who did it" approach would ruin sneaky skulks or roosting lerks.

It doesn't have to be a kill cam, even if the camera just stays at your previous eye level and looks down at your body as it dies would be effective.

^ thats what i meant. model goes ragdoll, but your camera stays attached where it was, on the head.
would be really fun to be tossed by an onos and watch yourself flailing through the air

    I really like the idea!
I like the Free Look Mode in UT Games for example!

This will be changed sometime soon-ish, to keep the camera in FP mode when you die, rather then jumping out into 3rd person the way it does now.

I find myself wanting to change from alien vision to normal vision after I'm killed while using it. Is there a chance to allow players to change that? Or automatically go back to the normal view? Dunno what happens when marines die while their flashlight is on. Is it turned off? Would such a change have any significant impact on gameplay? (like allowing players to see better around them after being killed to communicate it to their team mates).

Vaguely on the topic of handling cameras for dead players... Could we also get it so that players spawn facing the direction they were facing while viewing the egg/IP?

I always find I get that tiny little bit disoriented when I'm watching a skulk munching on the IP I'm about to spawn at, and then suddenly I spawn facing a different direction.

I totally agree. Aliens can adjust their facing direction when spawning. Marines on the other hand, are easy to spawn camp because of reason you mentioned.
