360 headset not working with NS2

I know I'm bootlegging it, sort of. I'm still using my 360 headset plugged into the 360 USB controller. The headset works with every other Steam game I have, and it is set in the Control Panel as the default source for incoming and outgoing voice chat. I've tried plugging the controller into multiple different USB sockets, including my sound card, but nothing works. I have Steam set to push to talk (although I would prefer it be an open mic) and am using the default key binding in-game. Every time I hit the speak key I see the blue icon on the right hand side, but no one ever hears me. It's mighty frustrating!

And it finally works! Although it wasn't "Playback Devices" that needed to be changed but "Sound Recording". I got to it by right-clicking the speaker icon, choosing "Adjust Audio Properties", and then going into the "Audio" tab and setting the 360 headset as default.
