Helping Scripter Again....

<div class="IPBDescription">Why Ohh Why did they do it?</div> 1.02 will now try to be "scripter" friendly... thats total crap, scripters suck and will always suck, learn to use the mouse wheel or bind your slots to keys. I was soo happy when scripters just died trying to do their stupid **obscenity**, now its all over... this game is gunna head the way of CS if this keeps up...

    Possibly it means that now we won't get auto-killed for switching weapons too fast manually...

    it used to figure in the slot delay, so even if u super quick with your keys you wouldnt die

    Baloney.

    The game still tries to prevent scripts as it always did. Today there were a few times when I tried to bite with the lerk, switch quickly to umbra, and make an umbra cloud. Well it made the umbra sound, and my energy went down, but no umbra. That's a lot better than getting killed because of it.

    Thats just like the blink bug, its not a scripting issue

    so this script of mine that helps commanders is bad (<a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=20&t=8598&st=30' target='_blank'>Post</a>)?? lol

    scripting is part of the HL engine. live with it.

    Really, he's right. How do you think this is going to end up like CS? I dunno how scripts would ruin the game.... Also, scripts <i>are</i> a part of Half Life. The developers are just dissallowing (is that a word?) some certain features. I really don't see what you think is so bad.

    The blink bug IS a scripting issue. The anti-script code thinks you're trying to use a script because you switch weapons and fire too fast. It's the same thing with the umbra.

    when HL first came out scripts/binds didnt exist

    Scripts are BS always have been always will be, Ill own any scripter with stock HL config on any stock HL map

    (points to the stupid jumping bean taucannon nade abuser)

    Scripts are to take advantage of people who play stock, adn weapon binds only became avalible in Opp Force (gearbox) not HL (valve)

    My best result with blink is too look up slight from strait ahead and just use it. Doesn't work if I'm too close to the wall, but I can usually blink down the hall just fine. I don't really see how scripting is bad for NS, I could see using it for marines and helping with a loading script (fire, holler for ammo, holler for medkit, and scream alien spotted with a reload at the end, something like that.)
  • GreyPawsGreyPaws Join Date: 2002-11-15 Member: 8659Members
    It always starts well, but gets abused, look at what happened in HL (if you guys even care)
    People think binds/scripts are normal, when they only became popular like a year ago, and I think the commander SHOULD click on the menus to drop stuff (save ammo and health) Im sure ill be getting yelled at anyway

    He's talking about when you blink and immediately switch to slash and fire. You would sometimes get killed, because of the anti-script code.

    GreyPaws, I'm not going to bother arguing about the advantages of scripts. But your complaint is kinda pointless. <u>NS still blocks scripts.</u> It just doesn't KILL you if you try to use one, so people aren't spending 70 resources on an onos, and then popping out of existence because they're fast with the keyboard. This way it just doesn't perform the attack or whatever. Alien ability scripts are still useless.

    theres a difference betweeen skilled-scripting and scripting.

    skilled-scripting is when you blink and MANUALLY switch 2 slash

    scripting is when u make an alias 2 do it for you

    Oh yes, scripting is horrible. Scripting is bad. Waa waa waa. That was sarcasm. Scripting is GOOD. It's good for people who can't do certain manouevers so they can perform them like everyone else, it helps people with laggy computers and it's easy to learn! Without scripting, it would bre unfair to the people with slower computers. Theyd' be constantly getting owned. If you don't like to script, then don't script. Some of us enjoy a good script or two! They can really improve gameplay if used properly. It's not our fault you don't like it, it's just too bad for you. It's never going to go away no matter what and it's too bad that you don't take advantage of it and use it. Me, I have keys bound to certain communications. I also have a commander config that makes it easier for me to give health and ammo to other marines when they request it. By the way, even the stock HL config is a SCRIPT! Without scripts, everyone would enter the game and not do ANYTHING but stare straight ahead.

    That's a script, isn't it? Yup.

    Nope, thats a bind

    <!--c1--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>CODE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='CODE'><!--ec1-->
    alias leap2bites "weapon3; +attack; weapon1; +attack; -attack; +attack; -attack"
    bind mouse1 "leap2bites"
    <!--c2--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--ec2-->

    <i>THATS</i> a script (or rather, looks like one. I doubt I've got it quite right) Lets say you're a skulk with 2 hives, just clicking mouse1 would (in theory) have you leap at an enemy, switch weapons, and bite twice. Who's playing the game, you or your scripts?

    actually no, the general consesus is that that would be considered a bind. A script is when you have 2 or more commands bound to the same key.

    [edit] dizamn i was idlin in the topic for 2 long and didn't see him beat me to it, o well

    Ahhh, the sound of people whining about scripting (when apparently half hear can't even define it correctly). Makes me feel like ---
