Hi,

today i wanted to create a local server to play with a friend, first i tried to create one through the ingame menu, but even when i unchecked the LAN button, it was still only lan and my friend wasnt able to connect. Then i read the instructions on the website and tried the one possibility with the server.exe file (not with hldsupdatetool), but i still got only a lan server running, i was able to connect but friend not. I also opened port 27012 on firewall and router. Any ideas or is it just a bug and i have to use hldsupdatetool?

cu Martin

Assuming you're behind a NAT of some sort, open inbound traffic for UDP-ports 27015 and 27016 (connect- and query-port respectively).

    Hi,

i forgot something, with all those settings, in the server browser my server appears all the time with (LAN) after the server name, thats the reason y i thought its maybe a bug. So i should try to open UDP ports 27015, 27016 for incoming and outgoing trafic at firewall and router? Did i got it right?

The (LAN)-tag simply indicates the way it found the server (in this case doing a .255 search). If set-up correctly, it should show both a (LAN) and a normal version of your server, this requires opening those ports I suggested (assuming you're using default settings).
