<div class="IPBDescription">that had a section in it called "Surface Access"</div>I remember back in the Alpha of NS2, early beta, there was a map that had a section of it called "Surface access".

I wanted to say this map was Summit, but from playing again actively Between Summit, Tram, and Mineshaft there is no area in any of them called "Surface access".

What map was this and why do i no longer see it being played?

It was summit. They renamed surface access to data core.

Yeah watch some of the older NS2HD footage.

And wow isn't it awesome that all this is documented so well? Thx Hugh! =)

Current computer lab was named flight control. Sub access was called marine start and vice versa for atrium. In fact, the only room names that haven't changed are crossroads and ventilation, IIRC.

I believe Atrium has always been called Atrium, but it was not documented early in the actual level file. In drawings of the map, it was called atrium.

Also Crevice. Another interesting fact is that of the three rooms that have retained the same names they always have, Ventilation is the room in the entire map that has changed the least throughout the entire development process. Taking into consideration that Crossroads and Crevice initially never had power nodes, and the marine team was always forced to build power packs to construct any functional buildings in those rooms, while ventilation has always had its power node in the same place. Additionally, both geometrically, as well as aesthetically, Ventilation has had no distinguishable alterations from the initial release of the map before it went official.
