Make Commander More User Friendly

I find myself playing as Marine Commander and doing horribly, it took me a while until I realized why I was so bad at commander, it was the simple fact that trying to manage a base is just too hard. As a Marine commander I am trying to beacon my marine team, but I have to go back to base and try and find the correct building to beacon. After I find the building, it is too late, the Infantry Portals are already down, then I proceed to be yelled at for losing the game from a simple error that I can imagine lots of people make. I have two solutions for this issue, that would be HOTKEYS! After clicking on a building, you hit Ctrl + A random number. This function would work exactly like SC2. When trouble tapped on the desired number for the building, your screen would jump to the building. To only select it you click the desired number once. So if I need a quick scan, I can do it very quickly, less hassle and help my team that extra bit. I find that the same function could work with your teammates, you hotkey them on a key so you can keep an eye on them.

The second idea is to hotkey tasks, an example is to drop a medpack. So instead of having to cycle through the menu's you can just click the number that you put the command on, and drop the medpack, quickly and easily without having to fidget with the mouse. Now of course this can also function for the Aliens, it won't benefit them as much, but it can still come in handy.

Feedback is welcome

I think hotkeying is already in-game (crouch/ctrl + number), I usually do this for the rare occasions of being Alien Comm.

As for Medpacking, the quickest method would be pressing E then S (if I recall correctly), since the default Commander menu hotkeys are ordered in a QWER/ASDF/ZXCV format (Grid?). But, having custom key bindings would be nice.

People tend to hotkey buildings they need, but yes it would be nice if important things such as beaconing, medpacks and ammo were on an ability bar - ala Dawn of War 2. This beaconing hotkey should probably be assigned to the Obs closest to the com chair.

Can someone comment on how hotkeying is supposed to work? If I am commander and press Ctrl+2 while selecting a hive, it does not group the hive to 2. Is it "Ctrl" or the crouch key? I have not tried crouch yet, but I remapped that off of Ctrl.

While something is highlighted, pressing ctrl+# will assign it that number.

I have always wanted grouping of obs energy and functionality, so scanning and beaconing isn't such an elaborate process of cycling through structures bound or not.

Actually, that is not correct. It is whatever your crouch key is bound to + number.

I bind crouch to F in most games I play. To assign numbers, I have to do F+# now :(

I felt like an idiot always trying Ctrl+# and it not working. I just confirmed it is crouch+# tonight.

I wouldn't mind seeing something on the right of the screen for MC - displaying who needs health and or ammunition.

I.E; just dropping a med-pack or ammo-pack over an icon making it much simpler to resupply your troops.

All you are asking for is already in-game.

    Q - W - E - R hotkeys will cycle through the Build, Advanced, Assist, Select tabs.
    Under the assist tab you have hotkeys to execute medpacks, scan, nanoshield etc. (on hotkeys A - S - D - F - Z - X - C - V)

You should try it, it works fine, even if it is a little rough around the edges.

    Disagree.
It would become too easy to keep marines alive, without wasting a single resource(failing medpack aim).
As it works now, it at least requires you to aim at the marine to heal him.

    I understand your point Swalk.

It should easier to identify who needs what and where though.

Perhaps a location template displaying which areas need support and those closest to death.
