5.1 Sound broken?

Title says it all. I'm using realtek onboard audio. I don't know if this has anything to do with it... but at one point I did switch to 2.1, and I think during that period I launched steam and it updated to the latest version. I don't recall launching NS2 though...

Anyway I've switched back to 5.1, and all my other games are doing fine with 5.1. I tried switching back and forth between 2.1 and 5.1 again. I tried switching from analog output to digital. I tried deleting the game from steam and redownloading it. I tried deleting the Natural Selection folder with the options.xml in it. None of these worked.

Any ideas?

    Well no replies... and it is still a problem in 201. I guess I'll post this as a bug.

    Look in this thread, simon explain the engine's capabilities there.

    I read your post again, so you have no sound if you are on 5.1?

    If so, have you reset your sounddriver to default?
    Maybe this help on gameside:
    - Open Explorer and type %appdata%
    - delete the natural selection 2 folder (this will reset your game settings)
    - start the game

    No I get 2.1 instead of 5.1. The back speakers get no sound. Most games just detect that I have 5.1 set in my system's sound properties. This was working in NS2 prior to 200. Like I said in my post I tried reinstalling the game, deleting the options.XML file, etc.

    I'm amazed no one else has complained about this I guess very few people use a 5.1 surround system. 1st world problems :*(

    I just received the Logitech Z906 5.1 speakers, and I can confirm NS2 is still only outputting Stereo. :(
