I chanced upon the NS2 beta due to a reinvigorated interest in classic NS and a frustration with the current state of NS public servers... I couldn't seem to find any that took the game seriously, and fewer still where players actually bothers to join the Marine team. But I digress. Lamenting the bitter fate of one of the greatest games of all time is not the purpose of this post.
Natural Selection 2, beta or not, has got to be the single best FPS/RTS experience I've had in a long time. Players were forgiving and helpful, and one guy ( sorry, I don't recall your name, but you're awesome! ) even gave a whole host of advice over voice chat for Marine command and another ( also forgot name... I'm terrible! ) for Alien play... I've come away from a solid evening of NS2 feeling good about the future of the game, and absolutely gagging for more of its goodness.
I think NS2 more than lives up to its predecessor... If this is a beta, the finished game could easily be the best multiplayer FPS/RTS ever created.
Forgive me if my unconditional praise seems out of place amongst the serious discussion about game mechanics that seems to dominate this forum. But it needed to be said.
To the guys behind NS2, thank-you for all your hard work thus far and again all the work to come!

Still lots of new features, bug fixes, and polish coming with each patch, so the game is always evolving.

there is nothing to be added.
+1
I think the gated community created by the closed beta is probably what makes things so great. We're all very passionate about NS and want to see games played out properly. As a result I had a pretty long chain of fantastic games last night, of the ilk I could barely find on classic NS.
What I did find was some sort of NS combat abomination, and I was deeply, deeply disturbed. It looked like NS had been overrun with CoD players. I guess all the people who actually cared about teamwork, strategy and good ol' drawn out awesome ns_ games have fled here?
Either way, this saves me laboriously having to assemble a classic NS group of friends and family who enjoyed the game back in the day. Huzzah!
Its an excellent game while in beta, its going to be awesome when finished.

That was pretty funny, actually. Yes it was me.
You got an awful lot of mines around that Gorge... I'm surprised it wasn't wearing one as a hat.
Ahhh. NS never fails to amuse!
If I see you in-game, I might get to kill you several times with fade, if I'm not a commander or if you're a marine :P
