Does Quark?

is it just me?...
it seems like it does to me at any rate. it's clunky, and it doesn't have all 4 views!! 2 views, and then you have to opt to look at a 3d view, but it's an extra window. the view rotator is actually kinda cool, but that doesn't excuse the fact that i can't see the brushes from an angle that i know (i.e. front, top, side).... it just seems so weird. maybe some one can prove me wrong. apparently a lot of people use it, and i know some one in here was using it before, cuz they said something like 'look at the wonders of quark. lighting without compiling'... something to that extent. i would certainly like to be able to see this in action, but i can't figure out how you can use quark effectively.. prove me wrong! i would like to see how it's done.

You can select what layout you wanna use from the layout menu bar. You can do 2 views (which I like most as you get the most room in each, and with the compass you can hit from any angle), 3 views, 4 views in a few different set ups, and even one large 3d view.

As for lighting without compiling... I don't think it can do that. The 3D view window does have a GL fog feature that you can customize in terms of how close you have to be for it to start fading and what color to fade to. I found a light gray to work best.

Quark's 3D window shows pointlight lighting, but not texture lighting. I forget where in the config you set it up.

well, i don't really use texture based lighting anyway. the real problem i have with quark is the texturing and compiling. i'm trying to be able to map for JK2, but there's a LOT of stuff you need to set up, or so it seems. same with ns. i don't have the slightest clue as to what i should do about getting to be able to map for NS with quark. if someone could point me in the direction of a tutorial specifically for NS in Quark (or for JK2), i would be much appreciative.

Start a new HL map. Goto Options -> Configuration -> Half-life . Click on the add-ons button, add.. and choose ns.qrk and ns_context.qrk (both of which you can grab in Wolv's pinned topic). You may also have to specify the special hullfile for compiling. To add to the commandline of a part of the compile, goto Halflife -> Customize... and then you can select any of the compile options on the left and add compiling parameters to them on the right. It's a pretty cool set-up, as you can create all different types of compiles.

hmm.. yeah. i was trying to use it before. i think it could be pretty cool to use Quark for some features, but i think ultimately WC is better because it is so much easier to use. i DO love that 3dOGL window though. very usefull. i think i'll stick with WC for now and just dabble a bit with quark every once in a while.

quark is like linux, Its totaly unfriendly to anyone and takes years of wasted time to learn it but it can be better after you waste time, and it does things faster, after you take 20 min of getting it ready, and it is more stable, once everything else is uninstalled...

Very true, I absolutely love quark, it took some getting used to though, and after all that experience with it, I can't stand Worldcraft (Valve Hammer now, I think?).
