Computer freeze after exit

Hey guys,

Recently, my computer will randomly freeze, requiring a reboot, when exiting NS2.

I installed my second GPU in crossfire more or less on the same day that build 202 came out so im not sure if its a crossfire or build 202 issue.

Does anyone else experience this?

Are you overclocking your CPU? The only time I've had NS2-related computer freezes have been due to a bad OC.

I assume by bad OC you mean unstable.

Its a solid OC. I ran prime95 for 12 hours without issue so I cant imagine it could be that, although I wont rule that out. Its stable at 4.5ghz. Never had a BSOD.

It could have to do with my OC setting on the GPUs but even thats pretty mild with only the core clocks @ 930 from 900. Memory clock is at the default 1050.

I will try disabling crossfire as an experiment. NS2 ran without issue before I added another GPU. But like I said I installed the second card at the same time 202 came out.

I presume this is using a 2500K or 2600K? That's close to my setup (4.5GHz 2500k) and I'll tell you that NS2 was a better stress-test than prime95. I got my system double prime95 stable for 12 hours, but NS2 still caused it to freeze and/or crash on occasion (when my room got hot). You might either try to up the voltage a bit or return to stock settings and see if NS2 still freezes after exiting.

Run your CPU at stock, then try running NS2. If it's still crashing let us know. NS2 will push your CPU more than most games.

    What Obraxis said.

Also, I can recommend HWMonitor for checking temps, fan speed and power usage.

Yeah 2500k. I will recommend NS2.exe over prime95 on the overclock.net forums lol. That will help get the word out about the game! I didnt realize that NS was so CPU intensive.

Disabling crossfire seemed to have an effect. When exiting the game, my comp didnt freeze, thats still not a definitive test though. I need to try it a few more times.

Yeah, I use realtemp, HWmonitor, and MSI Afterburner. Great utilities. The CPU doesnt get hotter than 50 and my 6870s dont get hotter than 55 or so. HAF 912 case rocks!

Anyhow, I will spend a little more time messing around and report back with what I find.
