Dumber (or smarter?) mines

Correct me if I'm wrong, but my experience has shown me that mines can explode and kill skulks through walls. Notably I believe on tram if a mine is placed in the doorway in logistics towards repair room, and a skulk runs in the tunnel beneath that doorway, they'll die. This doesn't really make sense to me. Maybe the mine has to have line-of-sight to the thing causing it to explode in order for it to explode?

If you take a look on those tunnels you see alot of gaps in it.
Marines can shoot trough and Lerk/Gorges also.

And mines have a cyrcle detonation and proximity.
