Marine "Soft-Split" Tech Tree

Aliens pretty well just roll with the tech tree, but I'm seeing games where Marines are having problems with it so I'm making this suggestion to make it a little easier to transition strategies
My idea is to rework the tech tree to allow Soft-Split technologies
Basically the first tech that you roll out in a that group will be inexpensive, but each one after that will cost more and more
(Creating the Illusion that there is a maintenance cost to have all options at your disposal)
For example:
All equipment now costs 10 to research regardless of which one you pick with welders being available for purchase by default
The next one you research costs 20, then 30, and so on
The added benefit is that you can "Sell the Technology" in a pinch so if nade launchers are no longer viable and you suddenly need flame throwers you can sell one off instantly to reduce the cost of getting the next one
(Or if things are going good maybe you just hang onto both)
More specialized equipment could have a larger resource ramp
Lets say the game had a satchel charge that was good against larger units and structures, but horrible against skulks/lerks
Your team could pay 10 to get them, but now suddenly mines cost 40 resources to research if you wanted both available at the same time
Soft-Splits could also be applied to higher Teir Equipment as they become available simply by making a Heavy Machine gun unavailable if two other equipments have not yet been researched (and automatically making the minimum cost to research 30)
Soft-Splits could also open up more gameplay strategies as a team could tech rush heavy armor cheaply and be able to switch off if their slow speed gets hard countered too quickly by an enemy team
It seems complicated on the surface, but I think in the long run it will make balancing the game much easier as it encourages a team to use many different simple combos to win

I can see the use of it, but it would still be annoying and to some, confusing.
It would be super easy. . .
While you're dead you could hit a button that instead of showing the map shows the tech tree
This would be a feature I would want anyway since you could see what your commander is currently researching so instead of being half way to the enemy base when some "Nice" equipment gets done you can just chill in base (Essentially rally with your other teamates), get the goods, and go win right now. . .
Save that beacon energy at the very least
