We already have new maps (turtle and triads) but they are not played because of the lack of server download.

Basil Run is on the way : )

Early peak of new section. Going to be a nice clean mesa like lab.

I feel like this could look so much better with less plain textures. It seems to bring the room down, which is a shame because I like the geometry. If you took the same sort of textures that Remedy is using for Eclipse along with the docking set textures it would definitely do the geometry justice.

edit: I accidentally a word

That looks really nice and very interesting.

It looks like one of the maps from Science & Industry mod for Half-life, which is a definite +100.

I could be wrong but i'm pretty sure that stuff is just placeholder graphics, it's not finished.

Anyway, regarding new, official maps, are the official map makers who actually work for UWE and created mineshaft/tram/etc working on any new ones in the background or do we just have the unofficial ones to look forward to right now?

Yep! In fact, we're working very hard right now to get them ready. There's plenty of mapping and map playtesting going on at the moment.

Ya they're mostly placeholder textures.

It's really hard to texture for Spark right now. I don't have all my usual tricks to use like in Source.

Cubemaps!

There's Triad , which appears to be an awesome map- that absolutely nobody is playing on. It's not on any pub servers and I've only ever seen a single scrim take place on it. It doesn't even get played on Gathers because of their obsession with Turtle(also, a great community map. But it would be nice to have some variation).

Triad has a solid layout, good geometry and visuals. It's very good looking map overall. I think i have played one scrim and something like 4 gathers in it. The biggest problem with the map is the size. It feels little bit too big for 6v6 and there's not much action going on. It feels very hard for marines to push on the alien harvesters and very easy for aliens to put pressure on the marine extractors. I wish some of the corridors in triad were made little bit shorter.

One of the developers posted somewhere that there will be 7 maps on release I believe (this includes community made maps that became official, like summit and probably veil)
I'm sure there's going to be many more in the future too.

We could of had a lot more maps by now if they added server downloads, in fact we should see a lot good stuff if they support the mod community properly, until that happens new content will be slow to appear.

Server downloads are on the cards, but I think people would prefer Max work on things like performance first. And UWE DO support the modding community by shipping all their tools and assets with the game.

Not to mention they said they'd incorperate all quality community maps into the game. (See veil and summit)

As you know performance is an ongoing part of development, we're not talking a massive feature here, simply the ability to transfer files from server to client and now that we have file checking it's an even easier task, i suspect though they're keeping it back for other reasons which many won't like.
