[FIXED] Authentication Failure causes insane ear-destroying noises
Apparently the mod developers are aiming for a ARMA III version as well?
Yeah, stick the extracted files in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2\AddOns
Also, with the arma 2 beta patch you get to use all dayz servers: http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php
Start it with Launch Arma2 OA Beta Patch.lnk from the C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead folder
I'm not sure why I'm still playing this, I like exploring I guess, but you die so frickin easily.
There's no real point besides trying to stay alive for as long as possible and getting the best guns and equipment.
Best played with a friend or two as running out of ammo or dying due to bleeding out is very easy.

It's not free...

WHATEVER DUDE!

amazing.
Forum lost it.
Can't be damned typing it out again.

We got Lee Enfield, AKM (AK74), binoculars, big backpacks, watch, compass, lots of ammo. Saw humans fighting in distance, avoided. Played for 7 hours straight.
Incredible game. Incredible.

Epic.
We were playing on a US server with 200+ ping and gameplay was fine. The zombie movement is a bit buggy; they sometimes teleport up to the tops of buildings, or run through walls, but those aren't network-related.

You need Arma 2 and Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead. They're both on steam in a pack called "Arma 2: Combined Operations". It's USD$30.

My favorite thing is when they punch you through walls.
We found the hospital and stocked up on blood bags. We then ventured to find a place to fill up our water bottles, as the water pump near the hospital wasn't working. We found a water tower to the north-west, but it didn't work either. We headed over to a lake instead. My friend put down his weapons and backpack before going in to fill them up, but when he got back to his gear the backpack had despawned. It was full of ammo and food. :(
We're now very very carefully approaching the big airfield. We saw someone in the ATC tower but they didn't see us.

Yet I do not know if spending $30USD is justifiable enough for this mod alone.
I finally got the mod working after an hour or two of problems, from the official patch having a registry error that made the program look for files in a folder seperated by a double slash (D:/Arma2OA//base) and required a regedit to fix to having to copy the entire 8GB contents of the Arma II mod folder to Arma II OA one.
Initial impressions: well, there were none. Took about 30mins to get into a server and the first one I got into crashed after a few mins play.
After some play time I can see the enjoyment from playing with a friend. The mod is very "raw" in that you join the map and that's all the direction you're given. Definitely part of the appeal is figuring things out. Strangely, my first time out- after I emptied my ammo into a group of zombie- I found I was effectively invincible if I moved in a straight line as the zombies weren't able to attack me.
In a bizzare way the clunky movement and aiming works in the mods favour as it's not easy to take them down when they're strafing and warping towards you, giving an "oh ######, run!!!" feeling.
I reckon the loot gives incentive to keep on playing, but I've found so far is clips for my pistol.
Each server is persistant and from reading the chat it seems each develops a small community. It's pretty tense when you meet a fellow player and don't know if he's going to go exploring with you or blow your brains out.
tl;dr fun with friends; frustrations soon apparant when playing solo.
hurgh.. please do not tell me you havent deactivated aiming offset (which should be disabled by default anyways) and mouse smoothing. without mouse smoothing it is very direct and responsive. also, open your ArmA2OA.cfg and set GPU_MaxFramesAhead=1
oh, it gets even better, like when you are in one of these warehouses with the flimsy walkways on the inside, like 6 meters above ground level, they still manage to punch you sometimes through the floor when you get right above them. i kinda hate that "zombies just run straight trough every fence , wall, gate" thing
I've done what I can in the options menu, which was only the bar for smoothing. I'll try that config tweak, thanks.
Anyway, had my first "eureka" moment where everything clicked: after a fruitless journey to a lighthouse I crossed a bridge to a small village. Creeping around I found a set of binoculars and 2 Winchester rifles with plenty of ammo. Stupidly I thought the rifles were shotguns and went to test it on a zombie at point blank. Instead of a BANG I got a whimpy pffut, realising- to my horror- I was holding a bolt action rifle and not a shotgun. But I was more concerned about the loud snarling from the other side of the building I was hiding behind. My test subject brought back up. I died.
My next death was no less embarrasing: I was trying to climb up a crane on the docks but ladder climbing is bugged to hell and I eventually succumbed to a broken leg from a 3 foot drop.
The entire ARMA engine is bugged. Never go up a ladder with a pistol out -- only go up ladders if you can switch to a rifle/shotgun/whatever.
Unable to play this evening, every server I join puts me into the debug forest.
Found a Winchester in a guard booth and had much the same results, aside from knowing it was a hunting rifle (as most Winchesters are). Decided to pick off a few enemies on the edge of town with my 13 rounds, called down the horde and managed to get away with two pistol bullets left out of six mags (and the 13 winchester rounds were gone first). Snuck into a barn and found a CZ500 with no ammo and three crossbow bolts, which I'm currently carting around just for the scope, since I do not have binoculars.
Got lost and ended up running down the western boundary line back to the ocean, where I'd started out... then sunset hit, and I have no desire to go wandering around at night without a set of NVG.
