How about to create the loading screens with tooltips? (while loading the map)
Here is what i thought about it:
One for each alien, one for each marine weapon/equipment or two weapon for each screen, one for marine commander, one for alien commander, one for the alien evolutions (carapace,silence,...), one for resources/power nodes, one for basic alien structures, one for advanced alien structures, one for basic marines structures, one for advanced marines structures
Each screen must have the basic information and maybe advanced information
And the zoom in effect while loading must be turned off...
just a quick example:

I think that keeping something like this simple is best. Look at games like World of Warcraft and Battlefield 3, where there's multiple tips during loading. These usually consist of one sentence describing basic to advanced gameplay functions.
Perhaps the game could link these to players played time, new players receiving basic tips more frequently. And the more you play, the more frequently you'll get more advanced tips. This would help guide players during their learning stages. But this is just me spewing a random idea. Point is, I think it's important not to fill up a loading screen with too much text.
This would let people easily contribute as well.
Good idea for a project though.

How easy is it for me to put a picture i want?
just put the .JPG files at the folder named "screens"
i just can't remember if this folder is at the natural selection 2 root folder or at ns2 subdirectory

The "Ken Burnsian" effect would need to be disabled and replace the images and decrease the amount of time they're shown. Or we could get something that allows for random lines in a simple text file is read and shown. I do know the current loading screen is a placeholder, so it would be useful to get some feedback from UWE on this one.

yeah, i think the random lines will be the best way to do it, it's an easier way to do the translations
a lua file with the tips would be ok
