I don't know if this might be specific to being in spectate mode, but many of the animations you see, such as the glowies around the hive, mist around the hive, kill splat anims, seem to be more like a slideshow than an actual animation (i'd guess at 2-4 frames per second at times, whereas i'm seeing 30+ for the players themselves)
I'd include a picture, but i'm sure you all know what a hive looks like, and a still picture to show a still picture seems a bit pointless :-p
