Battlefield 3 is becomming Call Of Duty

I dont know if anyone else has noticed this but the more of BF3 i have played recently the more it seems to be becomming COD and not in a good way and battlfield 3 has taken the biscuit making people pay insane amounts of money to get an advantage for a game that is already bought is wrong. People with it get all the usual stuff but they also get Priotirty Queing meaning they auto skip to front of ques for servers.

ALL of the servers i usually play on (thats 17 of them in my fav) ive had to quit trying because for the past 2 days ive not been able to access them. Id see the ticker saying "you are first in que (fair enough).....*30sec later*.....you are 2nd in que (wut o.O).......*10sec later*.....you are 6th in que....###### this...* this happend for all the servers.

And to top it off to practically match it to COD.....custom gun camos for premium players only..... ¬¬ really.....

Paying £40 extra for a game you have already bought is getting a ridiculusly common and unfair practice and it is almost beccoming socially pressured for people to pay for it, they are producing artificual splinters, if a freind buys it you feel almost presssured to buy it to play with that freind.

Paying in free to plays i dont mind so much and DLC as long as its a decent size. But these DLC are almost as rip offs as the map packs for COD.

Sorry rant over its just really pissing me off. Anyone else finding the same thing?? *takes deep breath*

Hasn't it been since it came out? I mean they charge you to skip ahead your ranks, and soon they will charge you to "Beta" test maps...

I think i'd more readily laugh at those suckers who paid for priority queuing lol. but wow that is one messed up example of an intrusive business model. Had no idea they were monetizing this heavily already o.0

Consoles are the reason we can't have nice things.

Well, the model works. Whenever you get killed by someone it's really a surprise when it is NOT a premium player.

I used to like playing BF3. Then the patch ~2 months ago ruined a lot of things. Then the microtransactions came. EA has brought down their iron fist to attempt to choke players of all their money, just like they always do. It's pretty pathetic, really...and as has been stated, for some reason it works. It's like these people don't even give it a second thought as to what they're throwing away their money on.

A few years ago, EA was actually rebuilding their reputation. Anyone remember that? They then did 180° and started flushing it down the toilet as fast as possible.

For me, the worst part is still that whole "worst company" debacle. It's completely ridiculous that they "won" that title. They went up against companies that have engineered one of the worst recessions in human history, against companies that have killed through willful negligence, and a goddamn VIDEO GAME PUBLISHER was worse than that? Anyone who voted for them in that poll is a disappointment to mankind and needs to look the word "perspective" up.

But okay. Bunch of immature twats crash an online poll and skew the numbers. Big deal, who cares. THAT should have been EA's reaction too. But the way they decided to spin this debacle instantly lost them any sympathy they could have gained from it, and more to boot. Instead of being the bigger man, instead of taking it on the chin and shaking it off, they decide to play the victim card and blame it all on homophobes. "Yeah, we were totally victimized here. The ONLY reason people hate us is because we dare to make a stand for the civil liberties of homosexuals."

    ###### you, EA. ###### you for trying to spin this as bigotry. You know EXACTLY why people hate you, and it has nothing to do with homophobia. Playing the victim card was a despicable act of manipulation. Getting clueless civil liberties activists to speak out on your behalf only damages the movement, and you callously decided that the ends justifies the means. May your bankruptcy be long and cluster######y and mired in scandals and corruption.

I quit BF3 after they released the patch that nerfed the tank(1 shot disable on side armor, lol) and broke AA missiles vs jets. BTW, did they ever fix that? Apparently I was ahead of the curve.

It's really a tragedy too because the engine for that game is absolutely beautiful. The world destruction, sound effects, feeling of immersion was top notch. Such a shame that it's been ruined.

    1. As a fellow Brit I assumed your eloquence in the English language- our natural tongue- would be like bathing in silk when in fact it turned out to be akin to swimming in razor blades. During the Queen's jubliee? For shame!

    2. Is your anger against paying for skins your major grievance? I haven't played CoD properly since MW1 so - AFAIK- skins only change the apperance of a gun, not how good you are -> is it that big a deal? (correct me if I'm wrong). Unless you mean the £40 is for a map pack which I think is a fair complaint.

    3. How bad is the DLC? What do you get?

I tend to roll my eyes when I see Generic Internet Person Criticising EA (lolfffffff) or Flaming Fellow Internet Gamer By Saying "Go Back To CoD". CoD hasn't changed its formula in 4-or-so years because it hit the nail on the head with MW1, and in my experience BF3 did more things right than wrong (though I haven't played it since christmas so maybe things have changed).

That's harsh, man. No, I just don't think he actually read what I wrote. He just saw that I was criticising EA, and because we have been so oversaturated with EA flaming, he dismissed it without digesting it. You'll note that I spent the first half of my post almost defending EA, before launching into criticism of them in the second half. And I stand by what I wrote. Co-opting civil rights struggles for financial gain is despicable and counter-productive. Not that they could give a ###### about civil rights. They saw a tool they could use to deflect attention from the actual reasons people hate them, and they used it. THAT is their only stake in the homosexual rights struggle: A PR tool.

Also, ###### is still censored. That's weird.

Priority queue is the most controversial part of the whole Premium thing I admit, but how is Premium any different than a season pass? Why aren't you raging at every other game that lets you pay for all the DLC upfront for cheaper than it would cost you to buy it all separately.

BF3 still has a long way to fall before it becomes 'CoD' The DLC for CoD is straight up garbage and doesn't even offer anything other than some bad maps. CoD Elite hasn't even come out on the PC so you can't really offer that comparison either.

I think the problem is that all the die hard fans of course already bought the LE for Karkand which is now part of the Premium package. If you already own Karkand you clearly pay a bit too much.

The whole premium business is a bit too IN YOUR FACE for my liking especially as someone who has very little interest in buying it.

Do we REALLY need to know that we where killed by a "premium player" every time we die with an obnoxious banner scrawled across the kill-cam and does the games main menu REALLY need a new "premium" tap on it in giant orange letters. As for the new expansion itself we now have tiny C4 camp-a-thon COD style CQB maps to make things all the worse.

Then to top it all off I'm forced to download a 2.8GB update (that undoubtedly includes one of the expansions) weather I like it or not.

    Thanks Dice/EA =/

BTW GUYZ I PLAY ON XBOX KTHXBAI

Well it IS EA, they aren't exactly known for their popular business practices.

I didn't buy it because I didn't want to mess about with origin, and also because I find all games where you have to grind for loot to make it at all playable to be horribly unenjoyable. Sounds like another step along the line of thinking that produced origin to be honest, which is to say 'screw user enjoyment, get as much money as possible' and is generally based on the line of thinking that people will buy and play anything with the right name on it, regardless of how rubbish it might be.

So yeah it sucks, but, it's not really surprising I don't think.

I don't see what consoles have to do with it though, people try it on any digital distribution platform, see also: the £1000 or so of train simulator reskin DLC for sale on steam. It's simply exploiting a market that you know won't seriously object to it.

Did you ever think that you'd need to download all the new textures, models, and guns for the Close Quarters content, so you can actually see and use them on your client?
  • -Drake--Drake- -dn ʎɐʍ sıɥʇ- Join Date: 2003-04-02 Member: 15125Members
Yes I did but are you telling me that its completely necessary for me to download a 2.85GB update just to see some new weapon models in-game because I cant play the news maps nor use the new guns (unless I buy the DLC) so why should I be forced to download the add-on regardless instead of being given the choice like any other game.

Plenty of other games have added weapons and such without stupidly massive updates (the previous BF2 included).
