I think the best way to play might still be the old way of lerking with spike harass and flanking.. As saba pointed out, bite does seem to be more of a 'flavour' when compared to spike effectiveness. With the new shotgun damage, flying in to get that bite is often quite suicidal.

I just bite, cover the Marine in spore then try to get another bite in. If a medpack is being dropped and I have no other aliens assisting me I just fly off.
