Bad performance on good computer

Hello there,

I have an this pc:
i7-3610 3.2 Ghz
4Gb ram
GTX 630

Even using the lowest settings possible, with 1024 resolution. The game still only has 30 fps, and drops alot.

What is making ns2 so slow? Does it still needs that many tuning?

tks

30FPS seems a bit low for that rig though, type net_stats in the console to check to see if the server you are on is running at at least at 25+ ticks (preferably 30ticks)

Try and overclock that CPU to around 4Ghz, you will see a nice boost in FPS usually. These performance issues are still being worked on :)

The 630 Card is a little underpowered and NS2 still needs lots of optimizing. Things will improve before release.

Sounds like he has a laptop, so OCing is out of the picture. Try disabling some of the graphic options via console:
These have to be reentered after every mapchange:
    r_atmospherics 0
    r_shadows 0
    r_bloom 0
This has to be reentered after every death:
    r_fog 0

If you're running fsfod's menumod (http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/forums/index.php?showtopic=113246), then you can turn off this things in the options (except shadows and fog).

Edit: I just realized that you can disable most of this via the new menu under options. Just uncheck all of the boxs in the options menu.
