It often feels like the flashlight assist aliens more than the marine using it. Its very easy to see where theyre pointing and active with them on. Have the devs thought of having the flashlights cause a blinding effect similar to Battlefield 3?

Maybe this should have been posted in "Its been done better"

If you put it in the "its been done better" thread you would eliminate the chance of all the flame and rage which to follow.
This suggestion has been made before but i can't seem to remember where...
Also it would be fair, as gorge spit essentialy Screws up marine vision, why can't marines have a similar function?

It would be abused. Marines would always have the flashlight on

it would be annoying if you were an alien - and whats to say that skulks use their eyes as their primary sensor? after all the view in the mouth suggesting that the skulks tastes to world primarly. its born to chomp :)

The flashlight needs to have a "bad" side (even if think it's not imo) the direction of the flashlight as you describe it is intuitive and i think it should not be changed. And make it as strong as BF3 is bad idea, remember that you have multiple choices for your equipment in BF3, in NS2 the flashlight is a basic item that don't have an equivalent.

For me this should not be considered to be implemented in the game, it is appropriate to the gameplay.

Not to mention BF3's downside is that it gives away the user's position. Aliens will always know of any marines in the same room.

The best working downside I could see to make something like this balanced would be giving the flashlight a battery limit. Considering how much difference light levels can make in some maps, I'd imagine this leading to other issues.

    Because spit isn't abused?
Most aliens don't need to see to get hits,

Maybe i the flashlight had a timed life?

Less negative abilities. Remove gorge spit green stuff instead.

How would that work when alien vision is supposed to be most effective (during the dark after the powernode is destroyed) and all marines have flashlights on?
