Can my PC play NS2?
Hey everyone. I'm new to NS2, though I used to play NS years ago.

I've made my decision to support NS2 and as I was on my way to buy this game, I read on an RPS article you need a strong PC to enjoy this game. A really strong PC ;_;. I hope I can share my PC specs with you guys to help me determine if my PC will be able to run this game valiantly.

PC Specs:
- AMD Phenomâ„¢ II X2 560 Black Edition
- GeForce® GTX 460 Sonic (1024MB GDDR5)
- Asus M4A88T-M AMD 880G AM3 Motherboard
- Corsair Dominator 4GB Kit (2 x 2GB) 1600MHz DDR3

Let me know if I missed anything.

Thanks for your help and advise everyone. I can't wait to get in soon whether it is now or later.

With those specs you should be able to run the game just fine. My computer is older than yours, and weaker, and I am able to play with very good framerates.

I just did a solid log with FRAPS and came up with this:

    2012-07-30 21:07:14 - ns2
    Frames: 151644 - Time: 2593673ms - Avg: 58.467 - Min: 0 - Max: 102

That was done with the following:

    ASRock Z77 Extreme4
    Intel Core i5-2500K @ 4.5GHz
    EVGA GeForce GTX 570
    CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX750
    G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866
Intel 330 Series Maple Crest 120GB SATA III SSD
    Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB
    CORSAIR H100

I had a 1090T with a GTX 470 and the average FPS were around 33. This is with graphics on the worst settings for both computers...everything disabled.

This game is pretty much purely based on how strong your CPU is...

    i7 3770k overclocked to 4.2ghz and I'm about 50-70fps. I previously had an i7 950 at stock and i was 30-40 fps

Thanks guys. I unlocked all 4 cores on my 2 core CPU. Would that make any difference with the FPS? Also, I'm not not sure what exactly overclocking means but I have heard of the word and I'll look into it.

I really appreciate the advice! I'm still very anxious to get this game though I might wait a little bit because I've been lurking the forum and I see lots of mixed thoughts about the game and its performance so far. A small demo to make sure my PC can play it would solve this speed bump fast though.

not really ns2 does not have much in the way of multi threading implemented yet.

Your PC should be able to run NS2 ok right now, with probably much better framerates once we're at 1.0 :-)
