Weird skulk movement

<div class="IPBDescription">latency involved?</div>I've returned to NS2 after about 2 or 3 months of playing other games, and skulk movement is confusing me a little. I'm guessing the way skulks gain speed has changed (the walljumping mechanic), but things feel very slow and sticky. Not like nerfed speed sticky, like micro rubberbands back onto walls sticky. Also, whenever I jump off or touch down onto a wall, the sound it makes (either the hop or land sound) is played twice. Once when I initially and visibly perform the action, and again a fraction of a second later. Why is this happening? It makes for very confusing and noisy skulk gameplay.

In fact latency seems to have a much bigger impact on the whole, compared to 3 months ago. Constant movement freezes where skulks will stay in place for about a quarter of a second and then fly off, and the hit detection seems to be even less accurate, which I thought wasn't possible.

The game has essentially become completely unplayable with latency, its effect having been massively magnified from the disabling point that it was before. What the hell has happened?

As I understand it, they have moved 'stuff' that was previously running on the server and overloaded it to the client. The result is that servers can run properly now at 30 tick rate, but if the client doesn't have an overclocked machine it will suffer.

The higher your ping, the more prediction your client must make. The more prediction = more cpu power required = less fps
