Maximum number of players

So I've been wondering if the maximum number of players that you see on most Servers - 18 - is the official recommended number? Or are there some changes expected as the Beta goes along?
And is it possible to have Servers with more than 18 players?

Talking about the maximum player number: What do you guys think of 18 players that seems to be the standard at the moment? Is it the "magic number", or do you have a different opinion on the matter? Discuss :D

    As far as i know UWE is aiming for 32 Players, so a 16vs16. This is the aimed maxed player count. This doesn't mean every map will be for this many people. Tram is currently already on it's limit with a 9v9.

    Competitive scrims are 6v6. 18 players is the sweet spot for most players/performance right now. The problem with more players is that the server gets laggy. Next build it may go up as the game requirements come down.

    Its a performance issue atm. Going over 18 players will cause server tickrates to drop terribly. Though, there is nothing stopping server owners from setting their playercount at 32 and letting the lagfest begin.

    Only heavy OCd server can handle 18 players right now. The HBZ servers run @ 4,8Ghz for example.

    And the size of the maps.
    With more Players the game lose the strategy part and its more like TDM.

    I would prefer following:
    Tram: 6v6
    Summit: 7v7
    Mineshaft and Docking: 9v9

    And even then, I was just playing on HBZ and the tickrate was going quite low in late game (~15).

    people have tried 32 players, to no avail. the server performance drops alot. lag kicks in, crashes are a constant.
    So i'd say the best one can get now is 10 - 18 really matters what the server quality is like.
