Game freezes in menu

hi,
Since yesterday i cant play NS2 anymore. I start NS2 via Steam or the exe in the NS2 folder then i can move a bit around in the menu and after 10 seconds or so the game freezes. (no blackscreen, i can see the menu the mouse changes to the windowsmouse symbol instead of the ns2 arrow) I need to press the "windows key" to return to my desktop. NS2 has opened the debug report. Minidump.dmp and log.txt are shown there.
I could play the new build (i think its 215) for some days. So the build is not the problem. I tried to run the exe as an administrator, no differents. I also reinstalled NS2 3 times completely new.

Can i start the exe with a useful parameter like -debug or something like that?

Edit: Steam community seems to be down, might be related?
Clicking on community and workshop gives this error:
Error Code: -101
Unable to connect to server. Server may be offline or you may not be connected to the internet.
Edit 2: There was also a steam patch earlier today.

There should be a sticky dealing with this considering how frequent it occurs.
