Why not allow pre order directly on Steam?

Hi!

PROBLEM:
NS2 is really good, and does not get the popularity it deserves.

SOLUTION:
I'm a bit surprised that the only way to get on the beta at the moment, is by pre orderning NS2 directly from your website.
I think some presence on Steam in the "Coming Soon" and in the "Featured Items" section would be really benefical, especially right now with TotalBiscuit's videos already bringing new players (I'm one of them actually).
I'm sure there's a reason behind the fact it is not present at the moment. Maybe royalties stuff, cost or I could not say! But I think you should really consider this.

Ye, I agree, and they will soon add this to steam, I think.

    Just some more points:

My friends do not seem to see that I'm playing NS2 on Steam. They just see Jwam: Playing. But no NS2. This is unfortunate because when I presented the game to two of them, they bought it right away!
Also, adding NS2 to Steam the "proper" way would allow NS2 to appear on the stats. And so, it could show off how cool this game is by displaying how much time guys play it. People could post screenshots and spread the word more easily!

I just wish guys from UWE, and all the community will be able to spread the word and give NS2 the popularity it deserves!

Don't get me wrong! Steam is not the ultimate solution for popularity and good sales. But as NS2 uses Steamworks and the Workstop, it seems to be one of the ways to go.

Valve's Steam Store rules say it's not allowed to have an unreleased beta on the Steam Store

Hmm I'm not sure to understand well.

There have been a lot of games on Steam tagged as Beta, but still purchasable and playable. For example, I purchased Endless Space a couple of months ago, and so I could play the Beta and give feedback before its release. Same for Wargame: European Escalation and some others. I know Sins of a Solar Empire, Trine 2, and others did this too!

I'm not saying you're wrong Kouji, there must be something I have not understood. Or maybe the terms have changed very lately, because it is true I can not manage to find such a game right now on the Steam strore. In such a case, I would be sorry for this pointless post!

The NS2 beta doesn't have a clear release date for when it goes gold, those beta's you're talking about probably had a release date. That is the main difference I think. So yeah what I meant is a real beta not a final version before release beta.

Once it goes gold though, you can be certain it will be on the SteamStore :)

Okkayyyy Kouji. You're perfectly right, every of them had an announced release date.

So, my post was pointless ;) Sorry about that! I was very surprised UWE did not put NS2 on Steam. But obviously they could not!

(BTW I had a good laugh when I watched you latest NS2 Pixel video)

Hehe good to hear you enjoyed the video :D

But hey this post wasn't pointless, it actually comes up once and a while. Because it is indeed a valid point. It's just that from Valve's point of view I can understand it. What if a company doesn't release the game, they'd have to do refunds and NS2 did have its ups and downs. It's just so awesome to have been through it all (2002-2012) and seeing UWE really pull it off!
