Modding Question
<div class="IPBDescription">Question on extent of modability</div>Hello there,
I am phenakist, recently bought NS2 and joined this forum. I loved NS1 and am excited to see NS2 released (or at least soon to be).
My question is related to moddability.
I have looked around the forum and seen that you can make levels for NS2 which is great, but i've come short on any other areas. Is it (or will it be) possible to make custom skins or models for guns and buildings etc.
I have been working with blender for the past few weeks and would love a game to use as a test bed for actually importing my work into an engine.

Comments
Also with the skinning and retexturing, are there any specifics I should know. Does NS2 require specific tools to implement them for example.

Importing/Exporting custom textures is easy if you grab the Nvidia dds photoshop plugin. You can then edit and/or overwrite any existing texture.
Lol, I mean, we have tons of coders on the forums, I have a couple of mods which will be full conversions, and yet there appears to be no moddellers among the NS2 crowd.
If you are able to model and willing to model, you will be inundated with LOTS of requests from these forums.
PLease put my name at the top of the list if you do decide to make models for NS2, I need hundreds!!

Hehe! That one guide might be a bit outdated, I've had to use a combination of both that one and the one on the wiki to get my models in game to work correctly., if anyone has issues or what not, I will probably fix up the wiki to make it more clearer on what needs to be done, a few things I am not sure if it is accurate or not, it is late though so check later

I am still practicing/learning modeling etc, but NS2 is pretty easy and nifty to start out with once you can get your models in game

I do come with a dsiclaimer that I am still learning how to model and I do use Blender as opposed to 3dMax, although from what my experience has been with blender and what i have read from the interwebnets, it's a damn good program for an open source.
But I would like to start somewhere and NS2 seems the best place!
what do you mean?
Their tools are unfinished, dated and very buggy. Nobody has applied for Tools Programmer for over a year now, so things like the cinematic editor are still a pain to use and you cannot use any other program than 3DS Max 2009 to edit the models. There is just noone who has the time to take care of the tools.
