Sound dampening walls for map making

I've noticed that we can sometimes hear the activity of the enemy on different parts of the map if the two walls are close.
While sometimes this would be acceptable and logical to hear into the next room, in some areas it is jarring and breaks immersion because it doesn't feel like you should be hearing that much stuff from that area of the map (hearing marine base activity in cafe from terminal comes to mind).
There are some cases where I think we'd want to put up an invisible wall on the map in those black areas that blocks sound from traveling through.

Dunno where things stand on this or how easy it is to do the dampening in a reasonable manner. Especially since we're already overloading the CPUs doing pathfinding.
