<div class="IPBDescription">Is it just frowned upon or is it a no no</div>in my map ns_frigid i'm planning to have areas that the commander cant see, like a tunnel that has been dug out by the aliens and a service tunnel. and other areas that probably wouldnt be covered by the security systems.

are there any objections to that?

No, that's fine, if not encouraged.

not good! Bobs are the same size as a crouched amrine, and as bob can't crouch his size is the samllest, so any bob tunnel will be accesible by the marines, you may think 1 tunnel isn't accessible by the marines, but you'd be surprised what soem teamwork and jetpacks can do (read flaytest diary 'bout the welder...). So if a marien is in there I think he should still get some guidance and support by the commander, isn't any of this mentioned in the mappersguidelines?

Areas without Commander would be cool, as long as they're used Sparsely.  I could imagine.  "Sorry Flea, your off my radar, your on your own now."

Let's just say it is "discouraged".

Generally, I think the rule is that if it is intented to be an alien-only route, then it should be hidden. If a marine is caught crawling through one then he really deserves to die anyway, considering an alien can move twice as fast through vents.

You may want to consider using height in vents to stop marines from using them, though. Several of my vents are high on the wall, or bend upwards after a short distance, so marines can't get any further through them.

Used sparingly and wisely I see no problem.  Just don't get carried away.

keep in mind that when you read the guidlines about this (which, as relic points out, discurage places unavalible to the commander), these are guidlines, not rules.  if you want your map to go official, you'll probably need to make all the guidelines.

heh, imagine a commander who could only see spawn. he would get bored so fast...

im all for areas the commander cant see as long as they arent of any huge significance for the marines.

You can get away with 'hiding' some small nooks and crannies if you're sure that marines won't be using them for anything... except maybe as places to commit assisted suicide. If you hide a high traffic area then that's a definite no-no.

Vents and alien-only routes are probably the only things you should hide. I plan on hiding all my vents and maintenance conduits, especially when you consider how unlikely it is to find security cameras in them.

all of the areas that i plan to 'hide' are shortcuts to hives

one of them won't be much use until jetpacks are available because it comes out at the bottom of this shaft and the hive is at the top of the shaft and immpossible to see from the bottom of the shaft.

basicly they are routes that won't be used much by the marines until late in the game. the aliens will use them the most.
