Save Map locations

If anyone has played Starcraft, or most RTS, I'm sure you're used to being able to hotkey or save map locations. Kind of like how you make squads in NS2 or you hotkey your Arms Lab or whatever. You should be able to hotkey a location on your map. Like if you knew an area on the map would be contested you could hotkey that area. In Starcraft it's Ctrl+one of the functions keys. And then when you press the function key it moves the camera to that location. If NS has one of these options in place already please educate me. Anyway thoughts?

This was already suggested by me in 'The commander experience' thread. I definitely think this would improve the game :)

I don't think that this would add to the commander because once someone dies they are pretty much separated from a squad so much that having that person in a squad is utterly useless. However, I do think the current proxy squads in conjunction with a kind of "squad select" tool would work perfectly. This is because (atleast in pub games) there's less knowledge of each player's skill so majority of orders are "I need a body here" orders.

The idea involves saving map locations, not squad locations. For instance you can save the location 'Reactor Core' on a key so you can tap it and quickly change your view there. Reason you would want to do this is that when a location is contested a lot you need to shift your attention to it often. With location keys you can be very efficient and multitask at multiple locations a lot faster.

I do not command often, but is it possible to assign a hotkey to a power node ? That could enable you to access any room.

I've never tried hit keying a node. But any building you can select yu can hotkey so it seems likely. You've probably tested it out by now though. And yeah that's a good idea in the interim. However if you had 3 or 4 nodes keyed along with your other keys it could be hectic late game. 2 keys for your CCs 2 for arms lab you armory your robo, 2 robo if really late game. That's a lot of keys with the 3 or 4 nodes on as well. I'd rather have all those keyed and just be able to use the function keys to cycle through like the hives and the contested spots and vice versa as alien comm

The only problem I could see with using the function keys is, personally and I'm sure the majority of players or ns1 players, have f1 through f4 for their team selection and rr respectively. But it would work fine of it was just an option for the remaining f keys.

Also cheers to darkomicron. I think it's a fantastic idea.
