Is there a general IRC channel?
I'm currently owner of #naturalselection on irc.gamesurge.net and I often see the question asked for a more NS2 competition oriented channel?
Are there any?
Should I set one up?

Fixed that for ya. #ns is infested with Minecraft\Skyrim\Diablo3\TheNextHype-plebs.

Lets keep this ontopic shall we?

That was an actual suggestion packed in the usual sardonicism. A proper ns2-channel would be good enough, no need to differentiate between casual and competitive (the community on both sides is too small for it anyway).

Since IRC has been dead for several years now, we usually just organise scrims via Steam groups/friends. It works pretty good, and I some how don't see a lot of people suddenly getting back on irc. At least I'm not.

I did find some IRC channels but the NS2 community on IRC appears to be small and fragmented.
There is http://www.ensl.org/gathers/5253 of course for pick up games, not sure how active it is though.
This could quite possibly be a mod for NS2 as well I think?

I can't see why not, at least for the time being.

I think it mostly boils down to whether you can find enough players to keep the system going and someone to build up and run the system. Unless you can find someone to do get things started right now, you're probably going to have to wait for the release to get things going. If I had to guess it, a lot of capable people are waiting to see how the game launches before they're committing more heavily.

I remember when you would get banned from #naturalselection for posting HLTV IPs in case people wanted to watch competitive games.

    Good times.
